    Hello ppl
I know i shouldda start a new thread but this one is basicly solved and the topic is similar.
I just bought 2x2gb ram from my Acer Extensa 5610 and my Windows 7 x64 can see it right, but only use 3gb. Resource monitor says the other 1gb is Hardware reserved. In the Bios theres an info saying extended memory 3gb. Is that what the problem is? coz its not something I can set in this version of bios.
Do i have to upgrade my bios? if so, to what version? The manual clearly says i can upgrade to 4gb. (extensa 5610 has intel 945 chipset)
    Thank you in advance.

You can upgrade 4gb but the limit for windows 32bit edition is only 3gb.

Since its a 945 chipset, its this.

Bios upgrade wont work and can potentially brick(make non-operation) if done improperly.

yea I missed that part then. It could be the hardware specific if that is the case (the max the chipset supports or the type of memory installed). Either way he can only see 3gb in the end on a 32bit platform.

ok, first of all its a x64 OS (win7)
second of all, in the OS i CAN see the 4 gb, but 1 is said to be hardware reserved, so i guess in a way it COULD use it, it looks like bios limitation.
    dont u think?

its set to dvtmax, so its around 224mb (intel GMA 950) but i think that 1gb is not used even for that coz if i set video memory to 64mb only, still the whole 1GB is reserved. What exactly is that "Extended Memory" in Bios? coz that is at 3072mb and cant increase it. should i flash bios to 1.08? its 1.03 now. release notes doesnt say anything about memory tho...

u admit u missed the part im saying its a 64bit system and then u say i can see 3gb on a 32bit system? it aint 32bit, not at all...

This is from Intel product datasheet:

    • Supports single-/dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM
    • Maximum Memory supported: up to 4 GB at 400, 533 and 667 MHz
    • 64-bit wide per channel
    • Three Memory Channel Configurations supported:
    — Single-Channel
    — Dual-Channel Symmetric
    — Dual-Channel Asymmetric
    • One SO-DIMM connector per channel

Again, support does not mean available to use. 4GB in that case is applying to the address space

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-us

Most manufacturers have something like the statement below or an clause in a terms and conditions to cover them.
