    Hey,

I'm having some major issues with spyware/malware that i just can't get rid of and some general issues with my Acer Extensa 5620. All I want to do is restore it to its default factory settings. My question is, how do I go about doing this? I don't have a recovery CD because I was silly enough not to make one when I first got the laptop. I have tried purchasing one from the Acer website, but they are not recognising my Serial number (even though it is a completely legitimate serial number) and their contact page for Serial Numbers tat are not recognised has been removed from their website!

So, I am completely stuck as to what to do and how to go about a recovery...

    Can anyone help?

I have read most of this thread but I'm getting so confused as to what refers to what Acer etc... Sorry if I'm double posting. I'd be happy to read a reply that is relevant to this if someone can provide a link?

    Kylie

Hi ktimpani, and welcome to the forums!
I removed your post from the Acer Info sticky and gave it its own topic, so people will be able to respond quicker.
Have you tried a Disk-to-Disk Recovery yet?
When turning on the computer, hit F2 to access the BIOS setup, and then go take a look at the Main tab. If "D2D Recovery" isn't enabled, turn it on and exit, saving your changes.
Then, when the computer reboots, hit Alt-F10 to start the disk-to-disk recovery. It'll use the factory default image on your hidden partition (same one as on the recovery DVDs) to clean your system partition and get the computer back to its factory state. Your data partition should be fine, but back it up just to be safe.
