    Hello Everyone!

I recently downgraded from Vista to XP on an Extensa 5620-6830. I believe I have installed all of the drivers necessary, but in the device manager it still has several instances of USB Root Hub with (!). Likewise, when I plug in a USB flash drive it does not detect it which is a problem.

Originally, the chipset driver also had a (!) next to it in the device manager, but after reinstalling that driver it went away.

My question is, what driver do I need to make the USB work? I thought that the chipset driver would cover the USB but it appears that it has not. Any help is much appreciated.

Also, I am running in AHCI mode (not IDE) just in case that matters!

Thanks for the quick response bigozone!!!

I did as you said and went to the intel website and downloaded the INF update utility (XP Pro and Intel 965 Express Chipset)

The description even says "tells the OS how to configure USP and AGP" which seems like exactly what I need.

Unfortunately, I ran the installer and no luck. USB is still (!) in device manager and it still won't detect USB devices. I even tried uninstalling the chipset and reinstalling it and then running the INF update again, but that brought me no luck either.

Any other suggestions would be very helpful as I am in over my head at this point (This is my first laptop, desktops are much easier to deal with!)

Your help thus far has been much appreciated!

you may try removing the USB devices from device manager... then reinstalling the chipset drivers

i had that problem and as best i recall i installed the Chipset drivers twice before rebooting

BigO is right, you have to uninstall all (!) drivers first, including the chipset.

This reminds me of the good old days when trying to install drivers in Windows98.. :D

Edit: You downloaded the installer right? Not the zip file?

    Edit2:
    WTF?
