    Hi there.

    I have an Acer Extensa 5630ZG that the screen is dark but the picture is there.

    When I press Fn+F6 repeteadly I can see the screen light flashing but it doesn't stay on.

    Additional information:
    - It isn't the inverter: the inverter works on other notebook and other inverter does the same on this one;
    It isn't the TFT or lamp: it does the same with a lamp I have to test and with another TFT;
    - I haven't tested it with another TFT cable as I don't have one to test;
    - I think it is possible that the problem is the Lid switch but I can't find it, does anyone known where it is?

    I don't think this is a graphics card problem, but...

    Can someone give me some more ideas to try?

    Best Regards.

    Does the screen stay lit if you enter the BIOS (to stop Windows/drivers loading) ?

    I think the lid switch would do more than just turn the display off as it triggers either a shutdown or hiernate/sleep depending on how power options are set.

    Hi.

    Thank you for your reply.

    No, the screen is always dark, normaly I press F2 to go in the BIOS while testing. The only light I can see if for a small fraction of a second when I press Fn+F6 (twice).

    Don't really know what else to suggest.

    It sounds as though you know what you are doing... and having tried another lamp, invertor, and cable then it's possible you are down to something on the MB.

    Have you been able to trace the supply to the invertor back to the MB. Clutching at straws without seeing a circuit but I would imagine the invertor supply is fed from a switched supply (under control of MB)... maybe you might get lucky there. Perhaps a switching element (transistor) has failed. You would have to confirm the drive to it to be sure.

    Try taking out the battery, disconnect the mains, press power button and leave it for few seconds. Re-connect the AC power without the battery and start, might work but not guranteed.

    The lid switch is likely to be a magnet taped to the inside of the LCD bezel.
