I have one of the Aspire 3002 series and wish to use an external monitor as my prime viewing source - is there a way to have the laptop screen disabled/shutdown whilst the computor is in operation?

Are there any likely problems with closing the pc lid and leaving the display on if it can't be powered off - I use the laptop as my prime pc it run off mains permanently.

    Thanks.

I have a 5672 that I occasionally plug into a TV so that my kids can play their early learning games. It would be nice if there was some way of temporarily turning off the laptop screen so that they could just view the TV screen.

    Thanks, Andrew.

I've been playing around with my 5672 and figured out how to use my laptop via the TV with the lid closed.
Get into "ePower management", then select "Advanced Settings", followed by "Power Button and Password". Next to the heading "When I close the lid" select the option "No Action".
Now just before I close the lid on my laptop the screen appears to turn off but I still have an output to my TV screen via the S-video port, as I reopen the laptop lid the screen turns back on.
If you don't have "ePower management" go "Control Panel" then " Power Options" and "Advanced" to find the same settings.

    Hope that helps, Andrew.

Hey, Kitch, does the 5672 come with the cables to use the S-Video out to the TV? If so, I must have them somewhere, but I haven't found them.

Is there anything that needs to be running to make that work? I removed most of the e-applications from Acer...

No, unfortunately it didn't come with the cable. I just went to a local computer store and bought a S-video to single RCA cable.
If you have Cataylist Control Center 6.9, open "Displays manager" and with your TV pluged in click on the "Detect Displays" box and select the setting that suits you from there.
