For two days now my fan is always on and I am close to riping it out :) .
I have my Acer for about a year now and this has never happened before.
My temps are very low,I use RMClock and my clock is now set at 800Mhz and VID is 0,850V but the
fan is still ON.The CPU temp is 40C and HDD 39C.
What can cause this to happen, could it be dust or something else???
    Please help,this is very annoying.

It's probably the dust.Try out your GPU temps too.
(I think either the SpeedFan or the ATITool will work)

try cleaning your vents with compressed air
usually with time dust is collected on the vents causing less dissipation of heat annd the fan therefore have to work over time
its usually advised that u do this atleast once every 6-8 months
try th GPU temps too as mujtaba said and if they too are a bit higher than the initial temperatures
cleaning the vents of dust should solve yuor problem

OK thanks,I'll try cleaning the vent and see if that helps.
I just resumed from Stand by and CPU temp is 35C,the fan is of course ON.

I tried the SpeedFan or the ATITool before but neither of them would read my GPU temp.

I read before that when cleaning with compressed air you must de attach the vent because if it stays attached
it can produce some electricity which can DAMAGE the motherboard.
Did any of you hear about this,is this true?

That fan issue is an issue with all 5100 series as well as 5110 series aspire notebooks. It seems to me that after flashing to the 2.00 bios and onward this problem started. When I got my notebook it came with the 1.80 bios which is of course very old now, seeing as how the latest bios is 2.83.

Anyway that fan isssue seems to be related to the bios as even with my 5102 when I lock it at 800mhz @0.800v the temps can drop to 30-29c in a cold room and guess what the fan is still on but at a very low speed! The only time it is off is when I first turn on the notebook and it stays that way for maybe 1-2 mins before the fan starts to run.

Don't bother trying speedfan cause that cannot control the fan speed on either notebook series infact it didn't work on my older travelmate either, so in general I think speedfan doesn't like acers (again AFAIK fan speed control is made possible by the bios).

You could open up your notebook and clean the fan blades as well as fan vents on the case out from time to time that will help with lowering cpu temps as well as overall notebook cooling. I always use compressed air to do this with (years) and have never had a problem.

You say it has never happened before but perhaps it was on at low speed and you didn't notice either that or you weren't running any post 2.0 bios.

well in that case if its prevalent with all notebooks of this type it would be better to try to control our fan speeeds ausing a program like speedfan or something equivalnt
or you could decrease the temp threshold in bios

Well in my notebook with the 2.73 (and all other BIOS) versions, the fan stops completely at 30* Celsius.

So that's just the case, I mean what would you rather have:

    1) fan at low speed constantly

    or

    2) fan off for 30 seconds, fan on high speed for 30 seconds (over and over and over again)

That's what my old Acer did. The fan would completely turn off at 45, and within seconds the cpu got to 50 when the fan would turn on at a medium speed. 30 seconds later it got to 45 again and the fan stopped. This process went on all the time.

Idk if it's just me, but I'd rather hear a low humm of the fan being on all the time, then complete silence for 15 seconds and a loud fan for another 15 seconds.

I had this problem too on my 8204. The cooling system is probably clogged with dust and the fan has to work harder to keep the CPU at a lower temp.

As for the air driving the fan and producing a damaging voltage, it shouldn't be a problem, especially if you don't use very high air pressure. If you are still worried about it, just use a pencil or something to hold the fan from turning. Don't use a very high pressure, I use a hand bulb type (Hurricane) blower, and have the machine powered off when you do it.

It should not be a BIOS issue if your fan has not always been behaving this way and only started recently. HAving the most recent BIOS though is a good idea.

See this thread for how to clean it out.
