I use a program on my mac to control the fans, my buddy uses one on his dell. Is there a good compatible program that works with the Acer 5100?

    Speedfan might work.

I don't know if it's supported in Vista.

I doubt you will ever find a program that works with the acer aspire 5100 series speedfan does not work... Believe me I have tried many of them over the last few months and none of them work. I think that acer did not program into the bios of the 5100 the ability for user fan speed control. If you have the latest bios v2.83 you will notice that the fan is pretty much always on but at a very low rpm (it can sometimes go off if the cpu temp falls to a number in the low 30c's) it will go to high when you start doing something processor intensive... However at the low rpms that the fan usually runs at it is pretty much inaudible even in a quiet room...

yeah I found speedfan to not work. there must be one out there since the system knows the fan RPM and temps.
