I've got an Acer TravelMate 5720 for a couple of months now, and I'm really pleased with the notebook, taking into account the not-so-good-reputation Acer has for their notebooks.
One thing does bug me though, it's the system fan being on 75% of the time, even while the machine is idle. I've done undervolting, and it has reduced CPU temp at max load from some 83 Celsius to about 65 Celsius max which is great (the fan never passes the lowest speed setting on max load I think). My idle temps have stayed the same (45-55 Celsius) because the voltage on the lowest multiplier is the lowest possible (duh!
). What bugs me is that the fan kicks in when the core reaches around 55-60 Celsius, and once it is down to say 45-50 Celsius it just stays on all the time and the sound can get annoying if the room is quiet. I don't fancy doing a BIOS upgrade (since I don't have the latest version installed) unless it's the only way of getting rid of the fan being on 3/4 of the time. Do these temps normally kick the fan in on other laptops? I know it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but I'm just wodering...
