I have an Aspire 5570 that is making really really loud noises and slowing the boot up time a lot!

Anyone have this problem? Not 100% sure but I'm pretty certain it is in need of a fan replacement.

Is it hard to DIY a fan replacement? ANyone? I am looking for instructions online.

    THanks

on an acer it is a nightmare. have you blown out the air vent with compressed air cans? or you may need to replace the thermal paste on the cpu and north bridge.

I have the same problems with my Aspire One. Just "acquire" a service manual and go to town. I've been told the fan case is made in such a way that the fan contacts it, so it needs a slight adjustment. I'm planning on giving mine a good look and thorough cleaning when I install the touch screen.

Switching the fan shouldn't be all that difficult, unfortunately on your model you have to take the laptop almost completely apart to access the fan. You can find some dis-assembly guides here or there are pleanty on Youtube.

But a broken fan shouldn't mess with your boot times, are you sure its the fan? It could also be the HDD. They are on opposite sides of the laptop so you could easily tell them apart.

The northbridge is a controller that handles the RAM and also the GPU. It is connected to the heat sink and requires thermal paste. If you remove the fan you should re-apply thermal paste to the CPU and northbridge.
