Just how long does it take these morons to ship a disc???

The last email they sent me in March said 4-6 weeks. We're now in May and the status hasn't changed since February! And yes, they confirmed everything...COA, invoice, etc.

Is Moduslink part of Acer? If not, is the problem with them, Acer, or Microsoft?

I'm looking for anything that could get this process moving and willing to contact whomever I have to.

I'm in Canada; anyone receive their upgrade yet?

Well who knows. I've contacted Moduslink about it and the best response recieved basically blamed Acer.

    "Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in the Upgrade Redemption Program.

Your manufacture has currently not started shipping, you will be receiving an email confirmation stating your order has been shipped to you.You will receive your order 6-8 weeks from that time.

    Regards,
    The Upgrade Redemption Center"

I then contacted Acer Canada who kindly blamed Moduslink
(note quote is right, I'm pretty sure its suposed to be "is" and not "i" ).

    "Hi,

It i Moduslink Please also note that upgrade is expired on March 31 if you have not registered. Please stay in touch with Moduslink.
    Thank you for choosing Acer"

So I basically get nowhere with either company.

Well, I'm not sure how the whole thing works but ultimately Acer is responsible. They made the profit off the sale and they shouldn't be pointing fingers even if Moduslink is responsible.

If enough people have had the same problem we should organize an e-mail or phone campaign to Acer complaining about this.

I didn't mind at first as it gave MS time to work out any bugs in the initial releases. But SIX MONTHS is ridiculous.

Anybody think getting the BBB involved is a good idea?

Glad to hear I'm not the only Canadian that hasn't gotten the upgrade.
Last evening I sent an e-mail to Acer Canada attaching copies of the e-mails from Moduslink and advising that my contract for an upgrade was with Acer who i bought from not Moduslink and as their customer I exoected Acer to contact Moduslink and do whatever is necessary to get the upgrade to me immediately.
I also advised that should this not happen copies of the free upgrade advertisements, Moduslink's promise of 4-6 week delivery alomg with copies of the e-mails to both Acer and Moduslink would be sent to the BBB and, in addition, I would lodge a complaint with both the Provincial and Federal Consumer Protection Agencies citing fraud and false advertising with respect to promises of the upgrade.

Let us know when you get a reply from Acer. I'll send them an email as well. If enough of us complain they might decide to do something about it.

Hang on in there. I eventually got mine delivered to the UK from the Netherlands. It took about 3 months if not longer. It then takes for ever to do it due to the machine being an acer as it has to change the file format etc....

If there is a reason for the delay why can't they be upfront and tell people - it's the lack of communication and ignoring requests for informationthat's causing the problems.
Their marketing and customer service departments obviously need training.

    Moduslink, I back!!!

And I am going to get my Free Vista!!!

Note: if someone is BBB, I'm in, especially if we can through an egg at acer OR moduslink.

PM me if anyone is going to lead the charge to BBB.

I think Acer deserves a whole bunch of grief and aggrevation for the way they are treating Canadian customers and don't think going to the BBB will cause them enough.
I'm trying to decide between the Federal/Provincial Corporate and Consumer Affairs Departments or suing them in small claims court for breach of contract.
The later will cost $10. but if you get a judgement then you can attach receivables owing them from firms in your Province...That's GRIEF for them !!

I am sick of acer support, and this whole situation, there CSR are not helpful at all, I have been called a liar; they have even tried to convince me that I was not hearing a strange noise, which I was, and I can hear well, because I can't see well (300/20)...

I received one for my girlfriends PC which is a Hewlet Packard. I received it about six weeks ago. I had received an email saying it was approved and got it in the mail about 1 month later along with the HP drivers cd. My Acer came with Vista Ultimate.

Here's a copy of an e-mail I sent to both companies this morning:

I have no doubt I an get the story in the local press - they deserve the grief the way we are being treated over this.

I'm no legal expert by any stretch of the imagination but what about a class action against Acer Canada. Would that be feasible?

I think if everyone who was having trouble went to the Consumer Advocate at their local newspapers with copies of this thread plus their correspondence and we could get the story in the newspapers it would seriously impact their sales and that would get their attention quicker than anything else.
By the way it is now impossible to contact Moduslink Upgare by phone !!

Just scrolled through other manufacturers forum and there is no mention of upgrade shipping issues in any other - so Acer is the problem.
Check this post out to see how other manufacturers are keeing their customers informed:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=105237

Will everyone with an upgrade issue please say so in this thread.

Well, I just got the email that the upgrade has shipped. I applied I think around late December/early January.

I guess it's only a matter of time until everyone else gets theirs.

I haven't receive my order as well. At a point I have a email from them saying, "Acer is tentatively scheduled to begin shipping in early April. " Now it's early May already and there is no sign of having it. Are they sending the parcel from south pole?

If anyone is posting this on BBB, count me in.

At this point I'd consider calling the credit card company and doing a chargeback for part of your order not being provided. Also, request the full amount needed to purchase a RETAIL version of Vista.

EDIT: I wouldn't count on the BBB. If those companies are members (and they would have to be for you to get anything done), then they pay membership dues. Membership dues help keep the BBB afloat...the last time I made a claim, I never heard back from the BBB and they closed it citing the company said there was no problem.

So based on replies I see it looks like Acer Canada is the culprit.

Perhaps the title of this thread should have referred to Acer instead of Moduslink. If I could change it I would...mods?

I think a 3-pronged offense on Acer is warranted:
    1. Bad publicity on this forum, such as this thread
    2. An e-mail campaign to Acer Canada from all those affected (who knows how many of us there are out there)
    3. Some form of legal action or threat thereof

I don't usually rant like this, but this gets me so upset. This is such a blatant disregard of their obligations and customers. They figure they made their sale and any money spent on upgrading the o/s will just cut into their bottom line.

This is probably one of the worst examples of a company's complacent attitude towards their customers.

Personally I think the key is # 2 above - Bad Publicity and would encourage anyone with a consumer advocate at a local newspaper, radio or television station to take the story to them.
These national companies all have clipping services monitoring the media for any comments about them and a few bad articles in the press will provide the necessary motivation to get them moving.

Yes bad publicity is the way to go. Unfortunatly I've been unable to get any news station to pick up the story. If any one has any connections to some in the media that would definatly inprove our chances of getting this story aired, since as soon as one station airs the story the rest of them will be willing to pick it up as well.

Who knows, Acer probably still won't listen, but if we can damage there market share that would create some incentive!

if every one is to send and email a day to acer and moduslink (mainly acer) we might also get some where. I am sure they will get sick of reply the the huge volume of emails, not to mention the cost to pay that many people. they have to HONOUR there end of the deal!

anyone read this thread who does not own an acer. your lucky AND DO NOT GET ONE!!! save yourself the pain.

Hi everyone - after some searching came across a great article at PC World where they have already contacted Moduslink concerning upgrades for others

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,129784/article.html

At the bottom of the article you will se an e-mail address for who I assume to be their comsumer advocate

    mailto: [email protected]

I have already written and provided details of my problem along with copies on unanswered e-mails that were sent to Acer and Moduslink and suggest that everyone else do the same.
Hopefully once PC World finds out the extent of the problem they will get involved and bring pressure on Acer to do what they promised us.

Both of my orders, for Acer Canada, from have just recently been shipped out (May 4 and May 9). UPS tracking has them being shipped out of Raleigh NC, USA. Funny how one package has already been labelled as 'rescheduled' which means delayed I assume.

The initial email stating that I had passed all the requirements and that I would get the shipment in 4-6 weeks was back in Feb/March. Being aware of the issues, once 5 weeks past I sent an email stating my concerns and for them to 'investigate' my order. They respond by saying that yes, you have completed your order and we'll let you know when it ships out. They didn't bother giving me a time frame anymore.

Regardless, the orders have been shipped and I look forward to the ensuing Vista upgrading problems that I have only begun to read about.

I'll tell you...sometimes life is just unfair.

I usually get the raw end of the deal, but not in this case.
I bought my Acer a few months before they offered the free Vista Upgrade.

I filled out the form just for the hell of it, but as soon as they replied telling me they needed proof of purchase (or whatever it was they needed), I said to myself:

"Oh well, what the heck, it was worth a try".

I had since forgotten all about it.

Next thing I know, I just received my Vista Home Premium upgrade DVD, along with another disk that says "Acer Upgrade DVD". (What ever that is)

Go figure....you guys follow all the proper procedures, and I don't send them a damn thing they asked for, to verify whether I'm eligible or not, but they send it to me anyway.

Amazing.....I hope you guys eventually get yours.
I'm not even sure I'll install it.

Even though my 5102WLMI with 1 gig of Ram will supposedly run it, I've seen a lot of complaints about slowdowns and driver issues at this point.

And I'm not about to spring for 2 Gigs of Ram, when I've got XP running just the way I want it.

Believe me, I'm tempted to install Vista, but the thing is running so well right now, I'm afraid I'll regret it.

Anyway, good luck guys.....maybe you should have done what I did to get my free upgrade.

    Nothing! ;)

I agree with you guys about sticking with XP.....that's what I'm doing.

As far as the Vista Upgrade DVD....I didn't pay a single nickel.
I didn't even send them the info they wanted to prove I should get it!

If they charged you guys (even for shipping), and you STILL didn't get it, I'd be pretty mad too.

But again, I don't think you're missing much myself...especailly if you have integrated graphics and only one Gig of Ram.

Stick with XP...both you and your Acer will be a lot happier. (Just my opinion of course).

Interestingly enough, since I started this thread I noticed a lot of people have been receiving their shipping notices or the disc itself. This includes me.

My original order was made in January and I just received the shipping notice last Monday. I've been tracking it (UPS Ground) and its been progressing its way from Raleigh NC up the eastern coast. Its now in some town in NY and I expect it to arrive sometime next week when I'm out of town.

With my luck it'll probably be returned to sender when they find no one home!

Again, contact your credit card companies. You were entitled to a Vista upgrade, and didn't get what you paid for...a license of Vista. Call the CC company, and get a chargeback in the amount it costs you to purchase a retail license.

Well, is it legal for them to take your money and not deliver...? I haven't done it, but I know that chargebacks work. I've done those before, but only in extreme circumstances.

I got my confirmation 2-3 weeks ago, it stated my Vista upgrade should be there in 3 weeks. It came in 3 days after receiving the email, lol.
Cant blame Moduslink, Acer was put on the upgrade list about 3 weeks after it was open. They started shipping around Feb, but they have to start from 1st to last. Acer finally came up near end of April, so that's when they started shipping our copies. Before upgrading make sure you want to, some softwares are still not compatible and since upgrading from MCE to Vista, quality on Bison Cam has been shot to $hit, 5102 model. A plus after Vista upgrading is that it makes it seem like you upgraded your hd also, 4200->5400; much quicker seek time. ^^
