Hey everyone, just found these boards and thank god I did. I currently have a Ferrari 3200 on hold at the store and I have to go pick it up in the next 2 hours so I can play around with it tonight. I was almost certain this was the machine for me. After about 30 hours of going blind looking at different machines and the specs they offer I decided to make a post here and open the discussion up to your opinions and suggestions on the Ferrari 3200.

I live in Canada and we really gate raped when it comes to computer pricing and selection. I see the Ferrari 3200 for about $1950 USD in which would work out to about $2600.00 Canadian. The one I am going to buy is at an alarming $2999.99 CND because I can't get one here cheaper by using the net because of customs, duty & shipping charges. Ohh well, the price you pay for being a canuck I suppose.

Anyway on to my concerns and questions.

I have been seeking a machine that is going to last me at least 3 - 4 years that I am going to use as a desktop/portable unit. (Does anyone know if there is a docking station available for the Ferrari 3200? )

I originally wanted to go with the following specs:

    512 or 1 GB of RAM at 400MHz - PC3200
HDD any size with at least 5400RPM but preferred the 7200RPM
The new AMD or a P4 3.0 or higher

I only play one game "Asheron's Call" that is about 4 years old but like I said I want this unit to last the test of time because its allot of moola. I don't doubt it will run the game but I may want to run games later on. What do you all think about this?

Most of my computer time is used emailing and Internet usage with word processing. I need this unit to make me completely mobile as I plan to be doing some travel in the coming months.

All in all what concerns me is the 4200RPM harddrive and the RAM at 333 and the processor speed of only 1800MHz high end. Does the 64 bit AMD processor offset all of this against the P4's with all the bells and whistles?

I need to stay in the $2500 - $3000 CND range in price. Any suggestions or ideas on other machines you guys may have would be terrific.

    Thanks everyone.

    Chris

Hi lewdvig and thanks for the post. I had been to the site the other day and saw the one from BC for 2699. However I am also buying this from Compusmart, their site says 2899 but when I called they said 2999. Did you grab yours in Edmonton by chance because I will tell them about you and hopefully be able to take advantage of the deal you got. Do you know if they offer a price guarantee and do they recognize the guys from BC as competitors?

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Forgot to ask, does anyone know if the Ferrari 3200 can be upgraded? Let's say in time if I want to throw in 1 GB of RAM at 400 PC3200 can I ? Also, can I upgrade the HD to a 7200RPM if I wanted to?

I have only had PC's where everything can be upgraded and my knowledge of Laptops is somewhat limited.

    Thanks, Chris

    YOU ARE PAYING TOO MUCH!!!

Compusmart sells this for 2899 - they offer theirs to me for 2799.

I was looking at prices and found lots of good online dealers selling for close to 2600 CDN.

(I just did a search for 'ferrari 3200' at http://www.computers-canada.com in case the link doesn't work)

Hi everyone, just a heads up, I held off in going to pick this unit up until after work tomorrow night so I could get some input on what everyone thought. Please feel free to post your comments.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    3200info,

I'm assuming Lewdvig is on a military base of some sort from his location. He may have received some special discount to get it that cheap. If not, please tell how you got the extra $100 knocked off!
You should be able to upgrade the ram & HDD.

    I live in Calgary.

The South store had a 3200 on display. We were looking for a 2012WLMI for my friend and saw the Ferrari. We asked if they had an open box and the sales kid said we could have the display model - I thought his manager would say no, why sell the demo model if it is brand new? But apparently they can. He said they would let us have it for 2799.

There you go. We passed on it. We asked them to price match the 15 or so online retailers that had better prices on teh 2012 and they REFUSED! So we bought a 2012 from a reputable local vendor (Computerrack).

If any of you decide to buy the system, you should join the new forum for it. It's at www.ferrari3200.com.
