Hi. This is my first post :) Please help.

I just got my Acer Ferrari yesterday. It feels lighter than I thought and is thin too. But it gets too hot on my left lap and under my left hand (where the hard disk is). The other laptop I was thinking about is the Travelmate 8003lmi (Penium M 1.6GHz), the 8006 is too expensive. But since the Ferrari and the 8003lmi have similar design (I presume), would the left side get as hot as the Ferrari? Also, do you know how they compare in terms of processor perforamance. Is the Mobile AMD Athlon 64 2800+ much faster than the Pentium M 1.6 GHz?

Thanks. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    P.S.
Basically what i'm looking for is a laptop that doesn't get too hot and has a good 15" SXGA+ screen and at least 64MB of dedicated video memory and a dvd burner (processor not less than 1.6 GHz).
This LG is really cool (very light and thin and doesn't seem to get too hot), but too bad it doesn't have a DVD burner option.

I'm guessing that this is where the CPU is, the AMD will draw a far bit of power which in turn generates heat. The PM draw less power and should also therefore create less heat than the AMD.

As for performace the AMD will be better than the PM but also checkout this good review of the various CPUs.

Also note the PM will give better battery life, so it depends on your useage. If your after a portable machine that will spend most of its time on your lap unplugged from mains then go the 8003, if your gonna be plugged in and on a desk then the ferrari is the better choice.

The heat on the left side of the notebook is from the hard drive. My 800 series as well as the 8000 series both have this problem. I called Acer about it and there is nothing that can be done about it. I found it annoying as well, especially since my wrists will get very sweaty from it. I now use a separate keyboard and mouse when I'm at home and have it plugged in. As for taking it on the road, I've just learned to live with it.
