Ferrari 3200, changing OS language/9700

I'm in Taipei now and plan to buy a 3200 in a few weeks. I'll be able to check out my unit and screen in person before I make the purchase which is nice. [ ]

I would like to install my English copy of XP Pro in place of the standard Traditional Chinese copy. Would it be easy to do this? I can still use all the drivers from the Chinese disks no problem, correct? I may even just leave in in Chinese since I have most everything memorized anyway.

Also, how does the 128MB 9700 compare to my aging desktop's 128MB Ti4600? If they are nearly equal I'll be a very happy man. All my PC gaming consists of VBA(GBA EMU) and FBA(CPS2 EMU) gaming. I play everything else on consoles, so a card of the 4600's quality will be plenty for me for a few years.

Not sure about any language barriers but ATI 9700 is much better than your desktop's video card.

 

Installing XP with your English copy should be OK, but using the Chinese drivers might cause a problem. But all the drivers should be avilable on the Acer site, just download them first and burn onto CD before you reload the OS.
After installing the English OS, you caould always install an MUI (think is stands for Multilingual User Interface) into the system which should give you the Chinese menus & fonts. You should be able to d/l from Microsoft for free.

MUI is not free and only available OEM. It also only works on English versions of XP Pro. I will just install my English XP Pro copy, install support for all languages and set Traditional Chinese as my non-unicode language. I won't have the option of having a completely T.C. interface, but all T.C. programs should be fine then. I checked out Acer's U.S. site and all the drivers seem to be readily available. It's bogus that MS charges for MUI, but I'm sure they make a killing with big international companies. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

How much better is the 9700 than my Ti4600? I'm really happy about this, the 9700 should kick butt for my EMU gaming.

I don't have any comparisons between the Ti4600 & 9700, but I believe currently in the mobile market, the 9700 is the best and fastest chipset available. You shouldn't have any issue playing the lastest graphics intensive games out there (eg. Far Cry) at the higher resolutions.
