    Hey all,

Having a bit of a problem with my ferrari 4005 and was hoping for some advice for anyone who might have been having similar issues.

Basically, if I just leave the notebook plugged in and on, it will go into standby, the fan will be on full blast and I won't be able to bring it back from standby. I power it down and reboot and each time windows does a disk check for continuity.

I am running the rightmark CPU clock utility, are there any issues with that when going into standby? I torture tested the heck out of the settings with prime95 but I wonder if there might be an issue when it goes into standby..

Also, I have noticed that booting into XP seems very slow with the ferrari. Has anyone done a completely new install of windows xp, reformatting the partitions to ntfs and everything? I should be able to use my existing XP Pro CD and use the CD key on the bottom of the unit, I am guessing.. Seems like the Acer default install runs a little too much junk on the initial bootup..

Anyway, if anyone has any tips with the standby issue or doing a fresh xp install, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks a bunch!

Hm, that is interesting. I'm thinking that the standby issue is caused by RightMark - otherwise, I'm not sure what the culprit would be.

Here is one thing to try - go to Acer's support website, and get the latest BIOS for the Ferrari 4000. Most times, BIOS updates fix issues similar to the ones you are having, so it's definitely worth doing.

Have you tried taking off the RighMark utility and then seeing if you have the same issue with standby? If you don't have any problems after removing it, then you know that it was causing the problem.

As for the slow boot up issue, check out our guides section (link is in my signature). The "How to optimize a notebook computer" article is excellent - I just performed all the tweaks in there on my laptop yesterday, it is running much faster!

    Hey Chaz,

Yup, I turned off the rightmark thing and now it doesnt have the issues when going into standby. Weird. Guess more playing around is required!

I think it already has the newest bios so I should be ok there, only 1 bios release out for it so far.

I'll give that tweaks guide a shot too, and potentially might do a fresh XP install.. Who knows what weirdness comes installed by default by Acer.. I never use those quicklaunch buttons at the top and yet it loads a process when I boot, so I can probably not bother installing that kind of stuff.. And reformat to NTFS!

Hey - you don't have to reformat in order to have an NTFS filing system. All you have to do is convert it - takes only a few minutes!

Here is a link on how to do it! :D

But converting is not as "perfect" as reformatting. Urg don't know how to describe.
