I'm going to get one of those within a month, but I still haven't decided.

The differences I found (besides exterior) is that the Ferrari is AMD Turion 64, while the 8104 is Pentium M; and the 8104 has better RAM.

One thing I want to do is be able to upgrade to MS Vista OS when it comes out next year. As I understand, it's a 64-bit OS...right? If it is, then I will have to pay up for the Ferrari.

I was also considering ASUS Z71v, but Acer has better build quality, I hear, and it looks better. The Go 6600 should be comparable to the X700 anyway.

Is there anything else I should consider before ordering?

    Thx in advance

Actually, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista will be available according to this article ( http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/ArticleID/47669/47669.html?Ad=1)

Yeah, but the 64-bit is hella faster!

    I agree. Personally, I prefer 64-bit CPUs (I bought a TM4402 recently).

I might recommend a 32-bit CPU to family/friends if cost is a priority to them. But now that 64-bit Semprons are available (although maybe only for desktop systems at this time), the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit value processors is not very significant anyway. 64-bit just seems like the way to go. Competitive pricing, better performance, better future proofing.

If running the 64-bit version of Vista is important to you (instead of the 32-bit version), then that narrows down your search to 64-bit only machines.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. :acer:

I wouldn't put 64-bit compatability as a priority right now - the 64-bit version of Vista is slated to come out 6 months after the initial 32-bit release - so, you're looking at another year and a half before you can use the 64-bit. And, even then, there's a good chance that there won't be that much 64-bit software avaliable.

However, I think the Ferrari looks better...it's a Ferrari lol! :p

If you can afford the ferrari, definitely get that! ;)

Thanks for all the replies. I'll go with the Ferrari. Since I'm looking to buy closer to Christmas, they might put in a 2.4GHz Turion by then...and better RAM.

Just so you know. Acer is not going to upgrade the Ferrari until later in 2006. They are more than likely going to wait until Intel and AMD have the Dual core mobile showdown and see what happens with that. The upgraded Ferrari will be a different model (not the 4005WMLi, more like the 5000 series probably). Also, with the new Ferrari Acer is likely to introduce the new ATI GPU's in them. I am also thinking that they will support DDR2 since the new AMD processors will support the DDR2 ram. Hope this helps. I only know all of this because I recently talked to an Acer marketing rep and he informed me of it because I was in the same boat you are. So I opted to get the Ferrari now since I am not completely convinced the dual core thing will be power friendly to the mobile crowd.
