I just noticed something odd. I plug in my power supply into the wall and all is fine. As soon as I plug it into the laptop I hear a faint sound coming from the power supply for about 5-7 seconds and then it goes silent. The sound is like 'ginger ale or 7up'. I didn't think they were 'soda-powered'. Charging goes well and no other issues. Also, the sounds gets picked up from my desktop computer speakers.

Is my work area too quiet or is this a possible defect? I just bought the laptop on Friday from Costco.

I believe it is only electricity traveling through the power adapter. It is not a major issue...I hear electricity running around in my laptop sometimes. I also hear the same noise you are talking about when I charge my camera - it's power adapter makes a similar noise.
