    Hi,
Anyone seen this problem with the Ferrari 4005 DVD slot drives? (Drive properties say it's a Mat****a)

When I try to put a disk in it it feels like there's something in there already blocking it.
The drive's still getting power since it makes the normal noise when I press the Eject button (needless to say there's not a disk inside). Device Manager says it's operating normally... but it's refusing to take disks.

    Any ideas?

    Dave.

This happened to my Ferrari 4005, I sent it to Acer and they replaced it at no charge.

Thanks, Was it just the DVD drive you had to send? Or your whole laptop?

The thought of sending anything back to Acer struck enough fear into my heart to try to fix it myself.

They come apart quite easily and there was a small red piece of plastic which must have broken loose from something (fingers crossed not an important something).
It was blocking the way for a catch to slide out of the way when a CD was inserted.
Got rid of it and everything's fine now. A good shake would probably have fixed it too.

I had hoped to only leave the DVD drive, but the receiver at the Acer service center said that I had to leave the entire notebook (it seemed obvious to me that it was clearly a mechanical drive failure, but I guess you just never know).

Anyways, glad to hear that you found the problem. Mine is still under warranty so I was going to get my money's worth and make them fix whatever the problem was.
