From what I've read the fan control seems to have 3 speed levels.

I'm wondering why my fan does not step up speed while running e.g. 3DMark (Powerplay settings maxed). It seems to be pretty loud even at idle (below 40 deg. C).
Checking with MobileMeter the fan steps up to next rpm level at around 70 deg. C from idle speed. I've never managed to get another higher speed level.

Is there somthing wrong with my 4005? What do you read as temp in MM when the fan steps up to next level?

    Thanks,
    Michael

Good question... I'd like to know as well since I don't think I've ever heard it speed up or slow down whether it's a hot day and I'm playing Battlefield 2 or cool evening with just web surfing.

Would love to be able to control fan speed somehow... Where did you hear about the 3 speed levels?

Right now, MobileMeter says 42-43C temperature but I have no idea on fan speed...

    Regards,
    Arch

Thank you and hope to hear soon.(excuse my english..)

I don't think the loud fan noise is anything to be concerned with. My fan is audible at even the lowest setting. Acer's usually don't have quiet fans for some reason...don't know why.

And, I have noticed that my Acer also has 3 fan speeds - Idle, medium (when I throttle the processor), and max (when I convert files/render/encode).

As I'm used to have a silent notebook (Sony Z1SP, fan off for low and mid level CPU load) I've found the 4005 fan very annoying and sent it back right now.
The fan really never ever stops - under no conditions except powering off the notebook! Hard to understand why the fan needs to be running while MM shows a system temp of 36C!!!

It did not bother me in the office as there is also much other ambient noise , but it extremely annoyed me in a silent room, where I'll typically do the work that needs elevated concentration.

I''ll give the TM8104 a shot, but could not get hands on it until now.

    right.

    right 2

8104 s better than Acer Ferrari 4005, but I can advise u to look at Asus W2 and Fujitsu 8020E

I just had to say this...

I went from a Fujitsu P2120, which was practically silent all the time, to the Acer Ferrari 4000... and I was very concerned after reading all these reports about fan noise that I wouldn't like the Ferrari. It turns that that IMHO the fan noise reports of the Ferrari 4000 are badly overstated. As I type this on my 4000 I can hear the slight soft white-noise sound of warm air passing through the laptop and out on the left side but it is so minor that it is insignificant. I have an older Gateway Fireant laptop that makes FAR more fan noise than the Ferrari so I know what a noisy laptop fan really sounds like.

The fan noise of the Ferrari 4000 is barely noticeable and I surely wouldn't give up this awesome laptop just because of that.

I just bought my ferrari a week ago. The fan is always on, but most of the time in the lowest level. The sound is not really annoying.

You know what i'm glad the fan is always on, this beast will heat up like there's no tomorrow when you start playing graphics intensive games or do anything graphics intensive. Of all the things I ahve done with it, the only thing that has heated it up to a scary level has been games.

Plus if you're using this system in a quiet room then slap some music on in the background and put your headphones on (much to my surprise the ferrari has hgih quality sound, but you only really get to appreciate it when the headphones are on)

I've got a Ferrari, and for some reason I cannot hear the fan at all. I was wondering if there was a program or something that I could do to check to see if there is a problem?
