I know that with the barebone systems, you can interchange parts as you like. I was wondering how stuck together the Ferrari 4005 is, and what you can change - the specs given by Acer don't clearly say "You can change this if you so choose to" :D

Does anyone know what can or cannot be changed on the Ferrari 4005, either by the user or by the retailer at purchase? Thanks!

RAM, HD, Processor, wireless card, internal DVD burner (though I wouldn't know why since this is almost as good as it gets anyway).

Other things basically require you to do some extreemly major changes to your laptop and are not recomended if you didn't study laptop hardware design. To exchange the GPU you will have to exchange the mobo as far as I know.

Quite possible, yes. But hard to, and not recommended.

Yes, it is possible to upgrade the CPU, but as posted already, I would not endorse it. Difficult to do, and not to mention that it voids your warranty. The only CPU you could 'upgrade' to would be another Turion ML, and it is already at the top of the spectrum as far as mobile CPU's go.

Let's not forget that the Ferrari has a slot-load DVD drive...so it may be more difficult than you think to upgrade.

Right, I was just listing it as 'possible'. I wouldn't know why you would want to upgrade it anyway. I can't think of too many drives that are better than the one it comes with.

The optical drive is slot loading. Not hard to change at all unless Acer decides note to make a red colored upgrade (messing around with bezels might be tough).

The CPU is a ***** to get at. This case is very hard to get into.

I just found the service manual for the 4000 and the GPU is soldered right onto the mainboard. :(
