I checked the Synaptics touchpad settings and my 4-directions on the middle touchpad button are set to scroll to the corresponding direction. When I press a direction, the pointer changes to the scroll icon, so it registers the button press, but doesn't scroll anywhere.
DOes anyone have this figured out?

Hm.. after further testing.. it seems to be Firefox that doesn't support it.
It works in IE and Windows Media Player. -
I had the same problem with Firefox but I download the latest Drivers at Synaptics.com and it solved the problem. Hope that helps

it works with firefox

To get the four-way scroller to work in Firefox you'll need to download the latest drivers from Synaptic:
http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm -
Hmm.. I downloaded that driver from that site and ran setup. It installed fine, but I still can't use the 4-direction scroll in Firefox. I checked the Synaptics Touchpad buttons settings, and they are set correctly (to scroll in current window in the 4 directions). Anyone know the bugaboo?

Sorry to hear that - the drivers I linked to fixed the problem for me. I am running version 1.5 of Firefox, not sure if that makes a difference or not.
-
Hm... odd.. I'm also using FF 1.5 and the drivers at your link didn't get my directional scroll to work in FF
Still looking for an answer..hmm -
Try toggling the "Enable Buttons" option for Mouse Settings/Device Settings/Synaptics Settings in the Control Panel?
-
Hm.. possibly a false alarm - it may have been working all along, or maybe not. I did some random unchecking and rechecking of boxes, though I didn't change anything. It seems that I have to hold the button down for a second in the direction in Firefox before it reacts..
-
Strange! I'm using Firefox right now and the clicks scroll the window instantly. Sorry you're not have better luck with it!
-
Nuts! Any other suggestions?

Well, I'm not sure if you're willing to scroll pages in a different way, but I really enjoy scrolling pages with my touchpad.
All you need to do is tap and drag on the right hand side of the touchpad. Likewise, if you want to scroll horizontally, tap and drag on the bottom portion of the touchpad.
You may be familiar with this already through other manufacturers more obvious scroll 'bumps' on other laptops. The Ferrari has the same capability, it just doesn't jump out at you in the same way.
