I just got a Ferrari 4006WLMi and like it very much. I have a few questions.

    1) I can't figure out how to to turn off the Bluetooth mouse when I'm through with it.

I tried shutting down the machine and just waiting, then I tried pressing the button again, even holding it, but it stays on. I would like it to turn off (the light underneath continues to flicker/stay on constantly). Anyway to do this without taking out the batteries.

    2) Is there a reason the drive was formatted with fat32 (I've already used convert on it to fix this, just curious).

    4) My Ferrari came partitioned with 3 partitions, one Labeless 4.88gb EISA Configuration part., a 53.21gb C: part. and a seperate 53.70gb D: part labeled ACERDATA. The last parition was(is) also fat32 and contains some DLLs.

4a) Does EISA configuration really need 4.8 gigs?
4b) I plan on repartitioning for Linux...What are those DLLs for, and do I need to keep them on a seperate partition for some reason?
4c) Has anyone tried using any of the various ext drivers for windows on their 64bit machines (with xp 64), and how have they worked for you.

    Thanks :)

For bluethoth acces the quick button "P" and dezactivate the Bluethooth status.
For "emergency stop keep pressing ON/Off button for 3-5 sec and machin must stop.Remaining running because are some services in windows wich are not closed( must check , but possible some connected with network).
For partition: you have 3 , usualy used by Acer,in the EISA is located the Quick restore files. To install Linux try use Parition magic to create ext part. and install.
For ext drives , yes you can use withot any problem.
    Succes.Sorry for my english.

a friend asked me to assist him in getting this superb machine. and i had the opportunity to tweak and configure it to his needs before delivering it to him. if you remove the EISA partition you would lose the built in recovery/restore data. but that is not really a great lost if you know well how to clean install windows and where to pull out the pertinent drivers. you can use a hd partition utility (e.g. partition magic, paragon hard disk manager pro) to recover the eisa partition and use/integrate it to your other partitions. and yes you can convert the FAT32 primary and extended paritions to NTFS if you would be using Windows XP 32/64 bit. the 4006 comes pre-installed with the Win XP Pro 64bit ed. and the recovery disks supplied as well as the recovery data in the EISA partition are 64bit. but you can definitely install the 32bit version if you want to. this would mean of course re-formatting the OS partition to have a clean 32bit install. or if you want a double even triple bootable system you can use your hd partition utility to prepare another bootable sector/s where you can install either a linux or win os or both.

my friend decided to stick to the Windows XP Pro 32bit ed. so we got to repartition the whole drive, recovering the eisa partition integrating it to the primary which is C:. he did not like the 64bit version so we discarded it totally until further notice. before doing that we made a backup copy of the 64bit system for future use. (p.s. the 4.8gb space alloted to the eisa partition is approximately equivalent to the DVD backup disk that the machine requires from the user as one begins to configure the sytem for the first time. basically, i think, the dvd backup is a mirror copy of the essential data contained in the eisa partition).

note however that the Windows XP Pro license number printed on the sticker underneath the body of the notebook is for the 64bit edition. using the same number for the 32bit simply would not work. but since you plan to go for linux, who cares about the Win XP Pro license number.

word of caution though, test whether your linux would first work with the ferrari 4006 and whether it would run all the hardware features of the machine. you can do this by using the freely available bootable linux cds which you can try without installing anything to your hd since it runs in the cd per se. i hate to permanently install linux on the Ferrari 4006 if it would not optimize the whole power and feature of this big toy.

aesthetically, the Ferrari 4006 is truly a wow toy but for specs-by-specs comparison one can get a more powerful machine for less the price. you can even build one using MSI barebone turion 64 based notebooks.
