I picked up an 8 cell battery today for my 1681. I was in this notebook computer store that carried Acer stuff, told the guy what I was looking for and he grabbed it right off the shelf for me. It comes in an Acer box and was packaged up nice and everything, looks identical to my 4 cell battery except its rated for 4400 mAhr vs. 2200 mAhr for my 4 cell one.

He even gave me a break on the price of it, C$225 and I also got a cd disc containing Acer's notebook catalog which is totally cool. The place is pretty good and the staff was very friendly. Chances are I'll go back again for other things when I need them.

So, officially now a 4501 battery works in a 1681, Acer part #LC.BTP03.003

I don't think it's that bad. I could've ordered one from the states but I wasn't planning on going down there for a while and I'm not driving to Buffalo just for a battery.

Basically I believe the battery in the states goes for like USD$135 or so, convert to Canadian would be like $160 + shipping, brokerage fees, duties, and $15% tax would work out to be almost the same or slightly more. This battery is made in Singapore so duties and stuff would be different than if it was made in US (free trade thing) so it could end up costing more than what I paid at the store.

Like I said, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Since this was my first LT I got a lot of info from them re: care, travel tips that sort of thing. Since they were helpful and answered my questions in a quick and professional manner I had no problem buying the battery from them, they earned the sale.

    Hey Cman,

Which shop did you pick it up from? Some users may be interested in any local shops that sell Acer products.

    Thanks,

    Cman,

Thanks for the info. I've heard of these guys before, they're one of the larger Acer notebook dealers in Toronto.

Well i guess you got off ok then. I was on the phone several times calling Acer service in Texas. I quoted the same part number and they could not verify if it was a 4 cell or 8 cell battery. I took a chance and ordered it and it was a 4 cell unit. I love the laptop (actually my wife does) but the tech support could be a bit better.

    Fireman,

I did a search on the web for Cman's specific battery part# and it does appear as an 8 cell battery from the below link.

    http://www.audiotronics.es/product.aspx?productid=22615

Is it possible that when speaking to Acer you mentioned your unit as being an Aspire 1680 series? If so, they probably just placed an order for the 1680 battery rather than the 4000 series battery. You may want to verify that the battery has the same P/N on it as Cman posted, if not, you can ask for an exchange/return since they sold the wrong battery to you.
