The fingerprint reader got really hard to use after installing Vista x64. I must sweep my fingers dozen of times before it recognize them.
Does anyone encountered this problem also?
-
I just did a clean install of Windows Vista and I've got the same problem...And I've installed Vista x86 so perhaps it's not only related to x64.
I also think that during the setup of the fingerprint utility I didn't swipe my finger slow enough.
Moreover, I just saw that when I try to start Acer Bio Protection, I get the error : "Class not registered" but the program actually starts after... -
That error is because you don't have Adobe Flash properly installed. Go to the download site and install it by ActiveX method (not the setup utility). After that, reboot. You will have it working properly.
Back to the fingerprint problem, It drives me crazy. On the x86 version of Vista everything worked smooth and quick. Here... I've managed to set up one finger in 30 minutes. And recognizing it... it's another issue.
If you say that you've encountered the same problem... well, I'm switching now back to the factory setting to check it out.
P.S. Have you checked the WinSXS folder from the Windows folder? It's rapidly increasing it's size, making back-ups for the Windows files. Mine, after all the Acer utilities and Microsoft Office 2007, got to 12 GB. -
Yep, that was the problem: in the original setting the it took me 3 minutes for all the fingers, it needed only 3 times, rather than 6, and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks for your help, the "class not registered problem is now gone" after I installed Flash player like you said.
I then reinstalled acer bio protection and now, when I enter the setup wizard, I can't even register one finger. It doesn't even read it.
(my winsxs folder is currently 5.22Gb in size, I didn't install Microsoft Office yet) -
We should ask Acer about this x64 problem. Why the hell it's not working right on it, because I sincerely use that fingerprint device.
-
I have this problem too. The reader takes 6 samples and doesn't get the fingerprint right.
-
I think I've found out the solution. Go to the ACER folder (C:\) and install FP_Patch, after installing Vista x64. I don't have time for this now, but if you do, please let me know as well.

Well I'm using Vista x86 perhaps that's why I don't have this file. Moreover, I just saw that when I start Windows, there are two "Acer Bio Protection AAV" in my taskbar.
