Here in the Uk we have 2 models of the 5920G, one with bluetooth and no turbo memory and one with turbo memory and no bluetooth.
I decided to buy the bluetooth version as I figured that it would be easier to fit the turbo memory at a later date if needed and that turned out to be correct.
I purchased the memory from a Amazon trader for £21 less a £5 coupon I had and it duly arrived today.
It came on its own with a driver disk and so I unscrewed the bottom of the laptop ready to slot it in.
Once slotted in I realised that I needed 2 small screws to hold the chip in place and could I find any the correct size? of course not .. they are a royal pain being a very uncommon size but eventually I found 1 screw by taking it from a old Toshiba laptop I had sitting in the cupboard. Another problem replacing that for another day.
Anyway, screwed the chip in, put the base back together and booted up .. laptop found the chip no problem and asked for the driver disk and I duly obliged.
Rebooted and all seems to be working fine, it is showing in the hardware and intels console allows me to pick windows ready boost or ready drive.
So after all that is turbo boost worth it?
Well I really cant see any difference at the moment so hoping something shows itself soon.

How about a photo for referance to compliment your post.. That way others will know where it goes.

You should know where it goes because I used your picture that you posted a while ago about turbo memory. -

You are lucky. I put a Turbo Memory module into my Zepto and found that I needed to reinstall Windows to enable AHCI and use the Intel Storage Matrix driver. Zepto don't enable AHCI by default (partly because XP doesn't support it out of the box). So I have put that project on the back burner.
I also had the problem of the little screws. In my case I borrowed one from the mini-PCIe wireless card.
As for what benefit, have you read Anandtech's analysis? My reason for the Turbo Memory is to stretch the battery life. Perhaps the performance boost will get sorted out by the time Vista SP1 arrives.

My reason for fitting it was purely because it wasn't there and that annoyed me.
Had it been more expensive I wouldn't have bothered as I purchased the laptop mainly because we are moving to Spain next week and don't have the room for a full size Pc so I wanted something with half decent performance. Battery life is not an issue with me as the laptop will probably never leave the house, I have my Inspiron 6000 for that if needbe as its a lot lighter. -
I know, i posted on this a while back...
But i don't have the extra connector to install it... They left it off the motherboard on the Best Buy 1.5ghz models. So i can't install Turbo Memory... Just thought it would be nice to have a photo of the Turbo Memory installed for others to see. -

Mike, Did you check with Laskys that the work didn't invalidate the warranty??
My Laskys order came today, so it's playtime after work -
do comet have them instore? as i just seen the 5920 on there site and i would rather pick it up there [ it has the bluetooth ] than wait for it despite the £30 diference
-
There is only a 2 day wait with Laskys anyway compared with the Comet site which was saying 10 days.

I am now seriously toying with the idea of buying this just to finish things off.

Need to see how easy it is to take the old one out. -
its probally a slot in situation ? and what do you need a new dvd drive for?
-
o wait i just relised its a hd dvd drive, is it realy worth it? you never know bluray could be the winning format
-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAT****A-UJ-2...yZ131543QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem thats the bluray option on ebay atm for laptops, the price is a bit steep for such a poor brand, but i think that a dvd drive is what i will stick with untill i can be shure that one is the winner, and does the 5920 not have a glossy dvd drive so that would mean that the hd drive will look out of place no?
-
Dont think it will look out of place as it is the same model that Acer fit in the 5920 that has a HD drive.
My laptop is mainly going to be used as a home media centre so the drive would come in handy, it is also half the price on Ebay as it is in the UK.
I am downloading HD films at the moment and burning them to dual layer dvd which is fine so I may just wait a few months and see what occurs. -
do you know where you can pick up screws for the turbo memory ?

Hi people,
this is fantastic news that by buying the bluetooth version of this machine, you can then go and install a turbo memory card.
Well after reading this forum and before joining, this is what sold me on buying the bluetooth version as I knew that comet would pricematch the LaptopsDirect offer of £769.97. I could then go and buy the Intel Turbo Memory Module From Amazon and with information gleamed from this forum I could install this module myself.
I've searched and searched for information regarding installation in this particular llaptop and come up empty handed. I've even found (through the use of this forum) the service manual, which has no information regarding the module.
Could one of you lucky few who have installed the module give us a clue as to how you achieved this? A few photos even, showing where to look for the connector, or even if it exists on this model laptop, would be much appreciated by many.
I dont really want to open up the back of my laptop and not know what i'm looking for, in the manual i cannot even find the pci-mini connector for the module.
Anyway please, pretty please could someone solve this issue, "a fecking idiots guide maybe?" -
What about the connectors
And Bestbuy 5920 stock is over -

Here you go...luckily I took pictures before I did mines...but never got round to posting them and I dont know how to post the pictures either lol so i've put it on rapidshare (its the only thing I could think of).
Here you go:
http://rapidshare.com/files/56436940/Intel_Turbo_Mem.zip
There's a before and after picture (the module is not fully seated in the 'after' picture so you can see where it is). You slot the Intel card in right at the bottom of the laptop and then just put two screws in to hold it (I took two screws out from a really really REALLY old laptop cos I couldn't find any other ones that would fit!). Then install drivers and your all set.
PS: I had manually installed the 64 bit version of vista premium before the intel turbo memory was added. When I installed it I had to reactivate vista.... which was no problem over the phone. Don't know if you have to do this if you have the normal factory settings. -
thanks for responding sh4d0w,
Your photos are excellent, just whats needed. I managed to pry my cover off last night and peer underneath, 'fantastic', I definitely have the right connectors. Now I can go and buy the turbo memory from amazon.
Do you notice much improvement, from not having the turbo memory?
Anyway again, thanks for the excellent response.

Nice one bigspin!
I don't know bout the improvement tho....since I literally got my module a day after my laptop, I didn't really have the laptop long enough before the addition to notice the difference. Maybe someone else could shed some light on this? Cos I'm quite curious about the improvements too.
Fitted a turbo memory module in my 5920G
