Myself, I am very happy, no problems yet.
I've asked questions, got good answers. I did get BSOD the other day a few times, but no more, so I think its ok.
So, comments?

not happy any more, not until Acer gives me some SUPPORT!!!!!!!

I am also happy with my Acer,I was using Celeron 533Mhz-20GB-128 SDRAM-Riva TNT 32mb before it for 6 years so I have to be
.
Yuio you have to love that Ferrary.
Can you please explain to me what is BSOD?? -
BSOD
Blue
Screen
Of
death
You get a quick error messgae, then mine reboots. Could also cause a PC to not boot at all. -
Let's see...in a little over 3 years:
-I had the hard drive replaced SEVEN TIMES
-I had the screen replaced TWO TIMES
-I had XP reinstalled TEN TO TWELVE TIMES (including the times I replaced the HD)
-Had so many other petty issues that I lost count
-The screen broke a THIRD TIME, and this time, the screen came OFF the body of the laptop COMPLETELY.
Happy? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Angry? Furious? Disgusted? Completely Dissatisfied? ABSOLUTELY, yes.
Never buying an Acer again? ABSOLUTELY, yes.
Besides, I'm switching to mac and I'm likely never going back to PC. -
Wow, you got a big time lemon
-
not "WOW!"
not "WHAT!" either.. -
-
What the heck did you do to that thing to get it to break that much... i don't think i could do that if i tried on a Toshiba!!! that is saying something,
you story sounds similar to my toshiba experiance... not that bad though -
Very happy with my Acer AS9300. No complaints so far in the 2 odd months I've used it and I do use it pretty heavily.
-
me 2 that's my second acer notebook
i have acer tm243xc before i think it's supreme build quality i have it for 4 years without any any issues and sold it at hight price because it doesn't go to any service center for repair
know my new one is also fantastic i have it for about 20 months know without any issue except the dead speaker must be changed
i recommend acer for every one need a high performance PC but you must pay a little more to get the good ones -
I have had my Acer for almost a year and here is my experience:
1) Hinge cracks
2) Low quality keyboard, loses paint VERY easily
3) LCD replaced 4 times
4) 15-ish dead pixels 3 weeks after getting new LCD
5) Keyboard keys leave imprint on LCD when closed
6) When laptop is closed, the surrounding edge of the LCD panel leaves a mark on the upper case of the laptop. Now I have a long line from one edge of the notebook to the other. Possibly paint got scratched off?
7) Keyboard unresponsive when entering BIOS password
8) Motherboard replaced 5 times
9) BSOD when using Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120% or any similar virtual CD programs
10) Bottom half of laptop started to fall off
11) High temperatures, and the fan being on the right doesn't help.
12) Wireless card stopped connecting to some AP's, possibly damage from processor heat?
therefore I am not happy with my Acer. -
-
if only I knew of this site and if I wasn't an impulsive buyer back then...
-
For the most part I gotta say, I am happy with mine.
Little bit of keyoard flex which is normal on lower end laptops I heard.
and the screen tends to kinda 'chiggle' a bit when I move the laptop, which I also heard is pretty normal. -
Well the thing is all of my problems happened after the first year which is the period that you can legally file a claim with Acer under the lemon law. Doesn't matter, because I switched to mac and I'm a very happy mac user for life now.
I don't miss window$ at all, not even a little bit. -
I hope mine lasts! lol.
-
Well I baby my Aspire 5672wlmi and take it everywhere with me. I've had it for under a year (since August of 06) and I've done everything from wipe the entire hard drive partitions on the first day of getting it, to imaging it, installing various os's (including linux) as well as every windows operating system from Win2k - vista.
It's a great pc and since I have taken care of it, I've had few complaints. The only problem so far I've had with it is that if I put a great deal of weight o the lcd screen while it is in my backpack (due to books) I will get marks on the LCD monitor from the keyboard, this is fixed with some lcd cleaner and has not caused any problems since.
--ssx- -
I see, thats not bad at all. and I dont put a lot of weight on my moniter, so not a lot to worry about I dont think.

I bought an Acer 5672WMI X1600 for my wife back in July but it was a lemon. It was also my first laptop purchase. From the very first day of use it did not want to boot up all of the time and 6 months later I finally sent it back for repairs under warranty. When it did come on, she was very happy with it. It is feature rich and I am still wondering what Intel chipset it came with. Hopefully a 945 series. I do not believe at all that my experience is typical with the brand or they would not be in business. Since it was my wife's laptop, I really saw no urgancy to get it RMA'd or fixed until she threatened of buying another one.
-
So far the 5672WLMi has been my favorite lappy, with my old Fujitsu N6010 in a close second. Hard not to love that 17" CrystalView on the N6010!
-
I have a 5672 and I'm glad I bought it.
-
I have an acer travelmate 8215WLMi and generally I am happy with it.
-
I have the 5102 and it is really nice... i could play oblivion on it and my cousins hp couldnt, plus his HP says he has like 120 gb and he only has like 80, so yeah, acer is really good plus it isnt infested with 72 billion years of AOL for free,
But i must say the older ACER comps suck, i mean they are garbage, the new generation is the best line of acer comps, my sister has the 3000 and it is garbage.
Good thing i have the 5102 (= -
deltafx1942 Notebook Consultant NBR Reviewer
I agree with koma2191, the 5102 is indeed a pretty nice computer. I've had it for about 5 months now, and I have some stuff to add to my review of it back in August.
1. Being a dual core, it is kinda slow compared to Intel Core Duo 1 and 2.
2. ATI Radeon xPress 1100 is good, but not great. I find that it supports a wide range of games with a catch: some demanding games work while others don't. For example, Cod2 doesn't work, but Doom3 works.
3. The keyboard has grown on me. I like it alot. I would rank it above HP, but below Apple and IBM.
4. The hard drive is big and slow. I wish it was big and fast. But it isn't slow enough to cause too much pain.
5. The webcam is useful. Again, not the best, but good.
6. A pattern is starting to emerge for Acer: the parts they include in their laptops are useful, they work, but they are not of the highest quality.
At a cheap price, i don't think anyone can legitimately complain. -
So far, So good..
Hope it'll stay this good for 3-4 yrs! -
Same here man.
My only complainents, are that, keyboard flex drives me nuts, but I was told its nothing to worry about, and also my screen seems loose. -
I've had a pretty bad experience with my acer:
+: it was cheap for the components (excellent config at the time for 1/2 the price i was willing to pay)
+: graphics card is excellent for the time (X700)
+: good keyboard
-: the screen's been kaput for months
-: the dvd drive never really wrote dvd's properly...see separate thread
-: the wireless ALWAYS had issues when i put the comp in standby...i'd have to turn it off, keep it off until it cooled, then turn it on again
-: there are misspellings on the sticker on my laptop :|
-: performance is not up-to-par: it has alot of 'bugs' and hangs for minutes with no explanation.
-: what is this trend with pc manufacturers giving out "recovery disks"??? I want a original Windows CD!
All in all, I'm not happy that I have to replace a 1.3 year old laptop...I would have replaced it anyway, but I'd have expected the replacing to be a 'luxury' not a necessity.
....I'd give acer a 4/10, but seeing as longevity doesnt really matter to me, i prefer performance, a 6/10.
I dont think I'll buy an Acer again, unless the price is REALLY right. -
acer s not tough i just dooped my ferrari down the stairs at my school 12 standards steps plus impact on the ground and the wall across the hall...
not a scratch at all, i have dropped my aspire 3500 down similiar steps and same thing not a scratch.
note the computer was in a 20$ bag... so not much protection, but some. -
You should've read notebookreview.com EARLIER
-
-
yah, i thought at first that i was going to be assembling my computer, if i can get a picture of what the computer went throught i will post it. i almost had a heart attack as i had just dropped my new 2500 cnd computer down brick steps...
but now i am even happier with acer!!!!!
Acer's are good but they do produce lemons... just like everyone else. -
Yea, I feel Acer gets hated on a little to much for the odd lemon they make. I mean look at this now. its like 89% to 11%, 89% of the people like theirs, I mean, if you were to make similar threads in the different name brands, wouldn't you get something close to this?
-
Yea, but the problem with Acer is that they either perform A+ or F. Dont experiment with its build quality. But Im happy with mine.
-
yah that is what i hear alot too, if they are bad they are really bad
but for the most part they are very very good computers -
Brought my 13 yr old daughter a 5101 , had it 3 month, only thing I'd complain about is the left "mouse" button is a bit worn..Other than that, its used daily by her..
-
I like mine thus far.
-
I've been using an Aspire 5112 since August 2006. Touch wood nothing has gone wrong with the hardware. With regards to software, the ePower Management no longer works, but then I assume that has something to do with the way the software may interact with Windows and is not entirely Acer's fault. I found Acer's CS to be fairly helpful over the phone and through emails. The call was regarding the extra warranty they provide and the email was regarding hard drive partition information. This is my first laptop and I'm very satisfied with the quality. I only wish Acer could improve their North American website. I've had problems looking for BIOS and driver updates. Thanks to the forum folks here I would never have stumbled upon the European site.
With regards to this thread, I give Acer a thumbs up. -
Im very happy with mine. Though I probably dont use it as much as the rest of you. Im mostly on my desktop. However Ive used it to watch dvds and burn a few, surf the net and play some games...like C&C Generals, and Tomb Raider Legend. It's my first lappy and Im very happy with it. In fact I convinced a co worker to buy one just yesterday when he was trying to decide.
-
This is my second Acer notebook and it is just awesome. Although it was a little shame that i could buy a little better machine only 2 months later that had bigger drive and 2GB memory for lesser money.
My first Acer was an Aspire2005 which back then in 2001 was the fastest one. It won in alot of reviews her in Denmark both technically and design wise. Of course the quality was good. I had it every where, University, Lan parties, using it home etc. The machine never complained. Eventually the hinges broke and the screen was lose from the rest of the machine, so it no longer was transportable.
And i found this one. It can play pretty much all current games. Although Vista will need more memory since i only have 1GB, but im not using Vista this year since my workplace will not use Vista because of all the security issues and we are not ready to redesign all our customers systems. -
I had mentioned in a previous post that I was happy with my 5112, but I just don't like the fact that the fan is located at the bottom. It makes the laptop a bit difficult to place on the lap or any surface that may block the air vent at the bottom. I wonder if Acer makes any models without the fan at the bottom of the laptop.
-
I had 3 laptops.
Pro-Star Basicly a desktop that put in a laptop
Acer Cheap fast and good Laptop.
Alienware
The Acer seem to be the best for Out to areas. Mine only ACER 4200 TravelMate. 1.66ghz. Not super fast but great on the road MP3 and low end games.
Faults. Who in the hell uses fat 32 anymore. -
People who use their laptop to dual boot with Linux? Now why Acer chooses to stick with 2 FAT32 partitions I have no idea, but it helped when I wanted to repartition the second partition to install Linux.
-
I'm not happy with mine. It is sitting packed up waiting for fedex to pick up and return to Acer Repair, once again. I have had it probably for a month now and have not been able to use it without crashing and now, after doing a recovery, that the tech recommended, it won't reinstall windows.
The big laugh is I just got it back yesterday for another repair, which obivously wasn't repaired, lol. I have to laugh about it or I would be crying. -
There are a few quirks about my 5920 that I don't like however overall I'm happy with the components and performance.
I don't like the springy button sounds of the left/right touch pad buttons, and I don't like the position of the bumper above the left touch pad button which presses on the left touch pad button when the unit is closed. Build quality/design could have been better... but as I said components and performance are good. I've been lugging it around in my laptop backpack and have had it on a plane and it is solid enough.. -
I'm rather happy with my old Acer.
I'm dual booting Debian GNU/Linux (stable) with OpenBSD (current).
While non-Windows systems are usually tricky to install on most laptops, I can't say I ever had any problem on any Acer.
I would never use any system that uses an Intel Core 2 though.
They're buggy as hell and their's still no clean way to get around it. -
This is the first laptop I have (see signature). I am quite happy with it overall.
I bought it in August 2006 in a trip I made to USA (I live in Mexico) for a great price (cheaper than the same machine in Mexico several months later).
The only thing I did not like from stock was the 4200RPM drive so, as soon as I could find a 120GB drive (5400RPM) I put it in, that boosted performance incredibly for me.
I mainly use Linux and this machine has very good support (only the webcam and the SD card reader refuse to work due to lack of drivers, but not a big deal because I already have a USB Card reader, and I don't like others to be looking me). If I work hard enough to configure it, even Beryl can run in the crappy ATI card it has! (I did not have graphics in mind when I got it, I just wanted a Turion 64 X2).
Now I am waiting for 2GB DDR-2 modules to become available so I can upgrade it to its RAM limit of 4GB.
