I just made my weekly call to Mentor Media and this is the first time someone spent enough time to tell me something potentially encouraging about my Windows 7 upgrade. She indicated that this week they finally (her word) have given them some information when things would ship. She said my order would ship within 3-5 business days maybe before and encouraged me to call back Friday for an update. She said that e-mails typically go out 24-48 hours after it has actually shipped, and to not necessarily expect the web site status to change. Somehow I sensed she maybe knew something concrete this time instead of just having to say that they didnt know.
Im cautiously optimistic.:confused2:
I already bought a new upgrade license for Windows 7 and was about ready to install it on my Acer, but hearing this am going to hold off a bit longer in hopes that I can save it to use on my older Vista desktop. Hope Im not hung out to dry again being suckered into waiting just a bit longer
Has anyone that has received their upgrade kit found that it does a BIOS upgrade? The BIOS on my Acer M1202 is SLIC 2.0 compliant and presumably wont allow any OEM activation key to work on it until its 2.1 compliant. Just curious how they are doing this.
A lot of other discussion threads are showing that people are receiving their kits

I ordered my free upgrade on the 6th of November and it shipped on the 16th, 10 days not too bad, I heard it takes around 5 working day to be delivered in europe.

I ordered mine when I first got my 3810t in July, and got the email 2 days ago saying it is coming.
-
I recieved the e-mail on November 4th and it says that order has shipped on October 29th. I haven`t recived the package yet, but they grab my 20$ right away. The laptop was bought in US and I live in Europe. Still, they should have moved faster with the shipment. I`m very disappointed.
Edit: I just checked my shipment status on mentormediacorp and it say: shipped. I haven`t received anything. I sent an e-mail to mentor one week ago and no respons so far. What else sould I do ? -
i have not received it. i ordered it back first week oct. people overseas who ordered later then me have already have received them. however it no longer matters as will be throwing it directly into the trash when it comes as i have been abducted into camp ubuntu ! bye bye windoze it was nice knowing you !
-
I ordered mine in the 2nd wk of oct. and received mine a few days ago.
instead of throwing yours in the trash, how about donating it to somebody who has been waiting? -
My 3810TZ's Win7 was ordered late September, still processing. I kinda want it to come asap so I can sell this laptop lol
-
I dont even need or want the discs I just want my specific key so that my install wont expire after the 30-day countdown. I already have Win7Premium installed, but its in the trial mode - and Im not sure if I will need to reinstall again once I get my code (because my BIOS still at SLIC 2.0 and wont activate an OEM code I dont know how they are going to fix this).
The only reason I might need a disc is if it will update the BIOS to be 2.1 compliant. -
Once you insert driver upgrade disk it should ask to upgrade the BIOS to newer version in order to continue the installation. That is when it will install SLIC 2.1 BIOS. -
Hopefully I'll finally get some good news tomorrow when I call M 2 back as they encouraged. Not holding my breath however ... in that I've passed out numerous times already ...Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I am pretty sure that there is a huge backlog from people who owned acers that filled out that form very early. Acer seems to sell a lot of computers. From my experience with their customer support, mentor media also does recovery disk burning for their regular media. Sounds like that place is heavily in use.
-
i forgot to hit quote another poster suggested if i didn't want the upgrade if it ever comes donate it to on who is still waiting and my reply below:
Yes thats a good idea i beleive its only good for an acer. And thats _IF_ it ever even comes. i lost my order number and never heard from them. -

Two days ago I felt encouraged that M 2 might actually ship my order by late this week ... based on what the person on the phone told me Wednesday. Now today I was told that it might ship as early as next Tuesday ...
For reasons well probably never know, M 2 appears to be telling us anything they want in order to get us off the phone. This is the second time Ive been told that they are doing them in the order they have been received. I was also told that Acer is restricting sending only 5,000 out per week.
My order was submitted September 14 or over 60 days ago at least two posts on this thread prove that they are not doing them in the order they were received. Maybe different M 2 country units explain why some people get theirs in less than 2 weeks. Or maybe the driver disc wasnt physically ready for some of the Acer models.
I guess we weren't meant to knowLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

The keys people will get with the upgrade kits are plain standard OEM keys.. no need for slic or anything like that. They will basically work with any computer you have around (only will activate once, though).
-
Miracles can happen. Less than six hours after I was told my order was awaiting packaging and wouldn't ship until at least next Tuesday, I get the coveted order shipment confirmation e-mail. And the site now says shipped.
Although I'm happy to finally see progress, not much that they told me over the phone was accurate.
The tracking number isn't yet valid, but it probably will be in a couple three days.
I appreciate everyone's input on here. I'm hoping for a quick and easy activation once I finally get my key in that I've already loaded up the system and deploying it this weekend to a family member. It's good to hear that SLIC 2.1 may not be necessary after all. -

one question: do yu get a clean install disk, or and upgrade disk? Assuming that the upgrade might not perform so well, and that if I need to do a clean install i would need to reinstall Vista then upgrade again.
(I'm tossing up between a 3810T and and 3935, former with Win7 preinstalled, latter i would need to upgrade) -
I havent received mine.. anyone got theirs? it's getting frustrating!!!!! ordered early october!
-
Mine has been upgraded for awhile now (I'm in the US so that may explain quicker delivery) but I'm wondering if it's possible to use the disc and key to do a clean install on here instead. I understand the normal "clean install with upgrade" process, but if there's a way to grab some activation files off the existing install and then plop them back on a fresh nice running install it would be great.
Thanks. -

Guess I can always try just installing and activating online and calling if needed -
I can finally join the club of those that received their kit. E-mail was received last Friday and I received the kit in the mail today (Wed). Sent from Ontario CA to Iowa using UPS Mail Innovations (as others have reported them using in the US).
I already had a retail disc install running within the 30 day trial period, so all I needed was to enter the 25-digit activation key.
The BIOS on my Acer M1202 desktop is only SLIC 2.0, so a BIOS upgrade definitely wasn't necessary in my case to activate the key sent to me. The Acer upgrade kit DVD has a BIOS folder with three folders for Aspire 1410, 1810, and 1810T BIOS. Not sure if a BIOS upgrade is required for those systems or not.
The most current date on some folders on the Acer upgrade DVD is 9/24/2009. The part number on my copy of that disc is SR.50800.167, and the disc is silver pressed vs. dye recordable.
We'll probably never know why its taken this long for the upgrades to be sent, and why they weren't sent in the order received ...
A little more communications from Acer and/or Mentor Media better setting expectations would have gone a long way with me instead of looking at black bars and "fulfillment in progress" for weeks on end ...
I hope those still waiting get your kits real soon now. -

Hi, ok but one another thing is some don't understand is that Acer do not do drivers, it is up to the manufacturers of the hardware to do this, then they have to be passed by Acer then MS, I think still. Thus Acer have to wait until these manufacturers produce the drivers, their hands are tied.
I can't believe that your Vista was getting slower hour by hour, what on earth were you running on it?
The thing I was trying to illustrate was that there are other manufacturers out there who have done a much worse a job at producing win7 upgrades, as I said, Toshiba aren't expecting any to be issued until December. The reason they give, drivers, see my earlier explanation to why this is so...

UPDATE:
yesterday was "black friday" here in the states. i found an emachines being sold with windows 7 home premium 64 bit . the hardware is IDENTIAL to my acer labeled 5517 series laptop. they both have the athion 64 T-20 160 ghz processor, 160 GB HD, HD 3200 graphics , audio . but there is a BIG difference. this emachines laptop with my identical hardware comes preloaded with WINDOWS 7 64 bit.
My laptop purchased back on oct 2nd came preloaded with windows VISTA 32 bit only. other difference the E-machines had 2 gigs of RAM preinstalled. Mine shipped with 3 gigs of RAM preinstalled. This tells me there are indeed windows 7 drivers for my laptop but they are 64 bit drivers. what are they doing making 32 bit drivers to try and stick me with ? if i can't have the 64 bit version i definatly not bother with this at all. i will just run this on ubuntu for the rest of its days and learn a good lesson from this. -
On other hand, stick with Ubuntu -

Has anyone tried this with Acer or with some other laptop:
- install clean install Win7 from "clean" OEM installation DVD
- use Win7 serial number which came with Acer Win7 upgrade disk
Does installation and activation work fine? -

I ordered my upgrade September 24 and it was shipped November 27.

I`m very disappointed. The e-mail I received said that the kit was shipped on 29th of October and so far I haven`t recived it. It`s very strange for me why it takes so long to receive it.

I've seen a great majority of posts with people saying they received both an Acer Upgrade DVD and a Windows 7 DVD...my package has arrived but it only contained an Acer Upgrade DVD. Should both be contained in the same Windows 7 Upgrade Kit sleeve or is it a separate package?
-
Hi,
Has any one got a phone number for Acer who deals with Windows 7 upgrade? I can only find the one number and its only to report broken products.
Basically when I made my order and used my laptop serial number and Debit Card, my debit card was stolen before the order was made so I need to change my Acer payment details. -
My upgrade kit came from Hungary. If you absolutely want it, contact them and tell them that they forgot to add the Windows CD. But if you have your sticker with the license number, you got it all already. You can download the DVD from thousands of sites and install it using your legitimate key.
