I experience stutter and frame rate drop after about 40 minutes of gaming. Something is triggering Nvidia Powermizer to slow down my GPU. After the GPU drops in performance it stays there unless I restart my computer. this is not related to cpu downclocking because i'm running throttlesop. more info in my sig.
i tried lowering clocks to no avail. any help?

i disabled physx, and the problem still exists. however, now i don't need a restart. i just have to alt tab and go back in the game to fix it. any ideas?

Its most likley heat causing throttle. First of all you are 100% CPU is not being throttled? You are monitoring a CPU frequency graph to make sure it never dips below 100% during use? Windows is set to high performance and the minimimum and maximum processor states are 100%? And all the other stuff power saving off?
It might sound stupid but hey just making sure you've done all this
Are you monitoring graphics card clocks to make sure they are not dipping?
Get rivatuner, and find the hardware monitior and let it run while gaming, when the problem starts come out of it and see if the graphcs dipped during the time you were playing.
I have noticed laptop drivers for nvidia notebooks, allow throtlling of mhz when gfx is not in use. However, if you install desktop nvidia drivers (by using a modified ones) I notice the clocks remain locked. I'm actually suprised dekstop cards dont use power saving features as well but this is what seems to happen, so give them a go. -
For CPU, I'm 100% sure. Same for min and max processor states.
I've noticed that when the game stutters and freezes, I alt tab to gpuz and notice that the clocks are in half (probably low 3d clocks). I've tried disabling powermizer, the problem persisted.
the weird thing is that i ran orthos+furmark, the temp reached 87, and the clocks remained constant without throttling. but when i play a game, even though the temps reach about 70, it sometimes throttles. it seems it's not temp related.
any enlightened mind care to explain this situation? -
Hi, I have the same laptop and the same problem when I play BFBC2 for more than ~15min.
I played it on windowed mode so I can see what happens on EVGA Precision. I realized the clocks go way down by ~50% and same goes with the FPS. I tried Throttlestop but then I realized it has nothing to do with the CPU actually. Oh and my GPU goes up to 62C then it starts throttling. I wonder if powermizer is causing this problem.
Try using a non WHQL driver, it might help according to a thread somewhere here. -
Maybe a little stupid but did you try the powermizer switch ?
If you already have and still have the problem I think you could try to undervolt the card?
Each time you install a new driver you have to apply the powermizer switch again as they refresh settings in the registry.
