I just bought the 6920g yesterday:

    t5800, 9500gs, 320gb drive,

However, when I play a game (call of duty 4) and let it choose its own settings, it is great for a while, but then if there is a big explosion etc, it lags down the game, and it stays lagged?

it's running on 1024 x 720 , is the 6920g expected to play this game?

I'm using stock drivers, haven't done my backup yet, using version, 7.15.00.11.7561

    Any help?

Lower your game visual settings to medium or lower.
else lower your resolution while keeping same visual settings.

Any type of explosion or gunfire or graphically intense movement will lower FPS in general.

    also monitor temperatures using HWmonitor.
If the equipment gets hot, performance decreases.

you might also want to make sure you are in Performance power mode.

The problem with the 6920G is that it can think it's overheating when it's not, thus downclocking the CPU and GPU.
Undervolting the CPU would be your best bet - there's a guide here on NBR to help with that.

In that case, invest in a decent cooling fan for your laptop.
Since the 6920G has so many openings on its bottom for the RAM, CPU, GPU, and HDD, something like the Zalman NC2000B would be perfect for keeping your components nice and chilly.

i have 5735z with the intel onboard graphics, and i have been running cod 1,4,
also silent hunter 3 and sniper elite. all run perfect.
but i use a cooling pad and i switch off a few services im not using, printer spooler is one i never use (no printer) and windows updates as this likes to check for updates every 30min's. and if im not playing online switch off the internet,firewall,anti-virus.
so all you spare cpu time is used for the game.

and my laptop is not a real gaming unit :D

    Happy gaming.
