I have an acer 5101awlmi with Windows Vista Home premium

    cpu: turion 64 2GHz
    ram: 1 GB ddr2
    GPU: Ati radeon express 1100

I have tried both Oblivion and Scorched Earth. They both ran like ****, like 3 fps. I have updated the ati drivers. I used the drivers on the Acer official homepage. Anybody else having similar problems?

Keep in mind, you have integrated graphics and Oblivion is pretty demanding. I don't think there's much you could do about the performance.

Yeah, but scorched earth is an old freeware game which should work fine on even a 500 mhz or so.. and it lagged just as much as oblivion.

Well, I haven't heard of this game before but it could be that it's not really compatible with Vista. I've also experienced those kind of problems with games that should easily run on my x1400 but don't.
