Just wondering, is the GeForce 9500M GS the best graphics cards for laptops right now? Does ATI have something similar?

Nope. It's the 8800gtx
-
Actually 8800GTX SLI. =P

Nope. Actually, its 8800 mGTX
-
nope. the x3100 oc'ed.

9500M GS = 8600M GT.
8800M GTX is the single best card out there. SLI isn't completely reliable, but 2 8800M GTX's in an SLI setup performs beastly. Just check out the recently reviewed Sager NP9262 -
it totally depends on the size. if a 17.1 is ok, then there are many Dells with NV8800GTS or GTX.
but for 15.4 or smaller the NV9500GS(gddr2) and NV8600 gt(gddr3) would be the best probably , the ATI equivalent to NV9500GS is the HD3650(gddr3), this card stays cool and I liked it when played with it for a while on an ASUS and Toshiba.
And the ATI supports DX10.1....
but I think the 5920G832G32 with the NV9500gs(newer version of 5920G series) the best bang for your buck in 15.4 inch class.
in 14.1 inch class , the ASUS F8SN is the best priced laptop with moderate power(T9300 and NV9500GS), if you dont mind spending more than a couple of grands , you can get a thinkpad T61p(with similar spec) but I dont think it's worth the bill.
NOTe: there is the Alienware M51 something with NV8800GT but it is not a reliable and I am not a big fan of putting too much power into a small space, so I did not write bout it. It also is very very expensive with questionable build.....So I think an ASUS and an Acer remain still much better value as a whole. -

I forgot the aSUS M51sn has the same GPU and cpu combo as well.
But the Acer still is better value , better speakers , better keyboard , better screen and stays cooler than the ASUS. -
