Smart idea integrating the two topics - hopefully this (Gemstone) Blue Man Group gets popular.

Cheers TehSuigi) Yes, i hope so, but there are not so much people owning a gemstone blue lappy, because it just came out. It will take some time for the topic to expand.

Hmm...just noticed that Acer Euro has a new BIOS for the 6920, v1.07.
Doesn't have a readme.txt in the zip, so I'm hesitant to update depending on what it is...and what it could do to my system. I've heard horror stories of WinPhlash not quite working and resulting in a bricked system.

Flashed it yesterday with it. Worked smooth and it was very quick also. Do it. You can see the change log in the 1.06 archive.

Heh. Only Acer would put the 1.07 release notes in the 1.06 archive.

By the way, does anyone know how to disable the Arcade Instant-On function?
I contacted Acer Customer Support about it, but they in their infinite wisdom thought I was talking about turning off a background service. :S

I got a question...Both the 6920G and 8920G come with the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. My 6920G says it has two empty slots for additional hard drives, but is it actually possible to add another drive? I took a look inside and didn't see any room for another hard drive, what's the deal?

Querying the populace of Gemstone owners (Gemstoners?), has anyone updated their GeForce driver? And if so, to which one?
I'm seriously thinking this issue my laptop has with TF2 is driver-related - need to contact nVidia and see if 174.51 has any issues.

Hi there) I am recently using the Acer's official 175.63 drivers, you can always get them from www.laptopvideo2go.com. They are stable and fine for me :)

About the additional hard drives - I do not think thats possible

I just upgraded to the Acer 175.61 drivers myself (not 175.63 - that's a different package), and TF2 seems to FINALLY be playing along. 30 fps at worst, over 100 when alone in a corner, 854x480 all options Low.

Gonna start turning them back up.

I just found out that if you have the sound set to 5.1 and use headphones the volume is lower.

how is this for an answer... the hardware supports more HDDs than the notebook has space OR connectors for....

    that's my common sense answer.

8920 uses the same thing... but it does have the room for an additional hard disk. I think we could install another one... but with some modifications (pierce the chassis and get those wires out). But better use an external drive, it's less complicated.

Would it be possible to get a connector that you could stick out the ExpressCard bay?

I have a Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse and I have to turn the Bluetooth of the notebook everytime I boot up... Is there any way to start up Vista with the Bluetooth turned on? Thank you in advance.

In Acer Europe support site, they released v1.10 BIOS of 6920.
    I already flashed my NB...

Yes, but the 8920 is larger, and thus has the physical room to add the extra drives.

How did you get 100 fps? My 6920 always stop near 60, my refresh rate maximum. Is there a way to raise it without the risk of damaging it?

Also, does getting the last BIOS is worth something? I still have 1.00

Mat, do you have Vsync turned on either in TF2 or the Nvidia Control Panel? Either or will lock your system to 60 fps.
Then again, I do that now too - I just use the fps_max 60 command instead of Vsync. Anything more just causes screen tearing for me.

for some reason i thought the lid would be glowing blue (hence the gemstone "blue" name) and from product photos online, but instead the acer logo just lights up with white leds... odd

The ends of the cylindrical part at the back do light up blue...it's so bright that I can't sleep if I leave my laptop plugged in at night.

im actually quite glad the lid doesnt glow blue, it would've been way too distracting when using at night (cool, but distracting)
