I'm looking into getting a 2nd battery for my Acer 4020 and the generic ones are cheaper and easier to find than the Acer made one. Does it really matter if I get the generic or the Acer one? Are generics that bad?

    Thanks

No, it doesn't much matter if the generic is of good quality.

How would I determine if the generic is of good quality?

I've seen tons of generic batteries over on Ebay. So how is their quality compared to the manufactuer ones?

I bought one for my Aspire 3003, and the quality is good and battery life is good. The only problem I have noticed is that occasionally if I unplug the laptop, and then plug it back in, the charging LED blinks green continuously until I turn off the computer then unplug and plug it back in. While the LED is blinking, the battery status isn't displayed properly (it defaults to 0%) and it does not charge at all. This does not happen that often, and it's totally random, but it has never once happened with the battery that came with the laptop, so I assume that it is the generic battery causing it. I have to admit, that it makes me wish I spent a little extra to get an Acer battery.

You will usually find that the generic batteries are actually the same as the batteries supplied with the laptop. They just don't have Acer stamped all over them.

I would recommend getting your batteries from a reputable dealer rather than Ebay. You have some sort of warranty and a place to send it back if it goes faulty.

Do a Google search for laptop batteries and pick a site.
