I was running into numerous graphic glitches in games, which I had attributed to DirectX. However, it got too much when I started playing Halo 2, which had a lot of texture corruption, no support for widescreen resolutions and poor performance.

I decided to take the plunge, and install modded drivers.

The first link is to the drivers I installed.
The second link is to the instructions for installing.

They install perfectly, don't worry about the black screen during installation, you computer has not crashed.

After installing these. All the graphics corruption in Far Cry and Halo 2 disappeared. Performance improved very significantly. Less visual tearing and more fluid gameplay.
Plus, in Halo 2, I got the option of 1280x720. Which is not the 16:10 (1280x800) aspect ratio I was hoping for, but significantly better than the 1024x768 max res I was previously given.

My Vista Experience index for gaming also increased to 5.2 from 5.1

    1280x720 is 720p resolution, actually. It's 16x9.

After some testing, I've found that the performance increase is partly due to the drivers being slightly aggressive on image quality. Jaggies become very noticible even on maximum quality. But turning on Full Screen AA has less impact on performance than with the stock drivers. So the issue is balanced.

The main benefit of the stock drivers is that the default image quality without AA is quite good. I tested stock and 162.xx drivers on Tomb Raider Legend and the outline of objects (e.g. a stationary lara) was very unpleasing on the eyes with the 162.xx drivers until full screen AA was turned on. The jaggies were noticible with the stock drivers, but not as sharp or defined.

Tried many of these, but the problem was that with the latest you can't overclock.

    So I ended up with 158.36.. :D

Are the 158.45 putting up the best/highest score so for the 3DMarkxx series of test... "Without" having to over-clock them vs useing the stock driver.

158.45 is not the best performer,But its very stable and allow us to OC . :D
Newly released 162.22 score +130 Marks than stock driver, but can't OC

    Not thrilled with the 158.45..

First, still no Digital Vibrance Tab. 3DMark2001se took a loss, and screen flickered between screens (i don't care that's it's an older benchmark i still like to use it as referance). 3DMark06 100pt gain. Still not that watchable.

    I switched back.

Run the 3DMark2001se with the 158.45.... It's the only one that flickers in between benchmark scenes. The others don't.

I'm sure better will come out.

As a reference for what? 3D Mark 2001SE is DX7 benchmark with the last "nature" sceene being DX8. First of all you will not find DX8 games let alone DX7. And second even if you do you still have way to much performance to worry. Not sure about those flickers but if you don't see them in actual games don't worry. I don'd supose there are any optimizations for DX7 in DX10 drivers so

    EDIT: typo

Well for vga benching try 3d mark 2006,or 2005.

2003 and 2001 are cpu intensive..

Are these benchmarks supposed to run really badly?

I dread to think what card can run the 3dmark06 demos smoothly.
    When I had a Geforce 4 ti4600, it ran 3dmark 2001 very smoothly.
