The latest 965 driver from Intel has a problem with Windows Media Player 11 on Vista..

In fact both Intel 965 Driver versions 7.14.10.1350 and version 7.14.10.1364 have the problem with Vista.

The problem...sound but no video for embedded windows media.

The fix if you like me upgraded then thought cr*p is to install the latest driver from the acer euro website..

For me (aspire 5720) heres the driver that works..

    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebo...rs/VGA_Intel_GM965_v7.14.10.1332_Vistax32.zip

Patrick what driver version do you have ?

For a test I went to www.channelchooser.com click on the news channels say pick BBC worldnews ..I get no screen only sound..but now ok with above driver..

I did a big search and found other vista owners with the same prob.

    Cheers

Im using the GM965 hardware as well..the driver version that works at www.channelchooser.com on my vista 5720 is v7.14.10.1332
The actual filename from acer euro site for 5720 with vista is:

    VGA_Intel_GM965_v7.14.10.1332_Vistax32.zip

when you went to the Intel site, did you install a GM965 driver or a 965 drive? I haven`t looked myself yet...but that could have been where your problem(s) arose from...

it could also be an issue where like the GPU driver (at least with those that have something third-party), the manufacturers website refers you to the notebook brand. by this I mean nVidia`s website says go to Acer to get the necessary driver. this sucks because the last driver Acer seems to have released is from back in June `07.

fortunately for the enthusiast, that`s not such a problem as they have access to geniuses who modify them for us :D
