So I am now in possession of my new TM6592G.

It seems to run at about the same speed as my 4 1/2 year old Aspire 2001WLCi so I looked to see what was running in the background and it has 70 processes running. The ePower ones are taking up a lot of processor time so my question is are any of these truly useful? The fingerprint reader sounds neat but can I just run it on its own or does it need the ePower Framework (the most memory intensive thing on the beast right now, even more than Word 2007).

Just looking for some thoughts, I know that it has been recommended to get rid of all the ePower stuff but some does seem useful.

    Thanks in advance

EDIT, has the factory XP Pro configuration.

none of the ACER EPOWER crap or any of thier bloatware is useful

the ONLY usefull aspect IMO is the Erecovery which allows you to make your QUICK RESTORE DISKS... DO THAT NOW IF YOU HAVEN:T

then get rid of all that crap... ACER LAUNCH MANAGER is the only thing i consider remotely useful

as for the BIOSCAN print reader.. i have no clue... try searching using the FORUM SEARCH below

Too this day I still use ePower Management. With XP never had a hasstle....

However, other forum regulars will surely reply to this thread with their ways of safetly purging your lappie of unecessary processes.

Don't change anything yet....wait for the pro's to guide you.

    Cheers,
    Theo

    1. Burn the recovery discs using eRecovery.
    2. Burn the utilities & drivers disc using eRecovery. This way, in case you accidentally nuke anything you shouldn't have, you don't have to go all the way back to factory fresh.

ePower used to be a piece of turd on XP for my old TravelMate 3252WXMi, but the Vista version runs great on my new Aspire 6920G.
    Go figure.

@ bigO: I was still writing my post and yours was already there before me

Now it's Hoggies turn. He also has no time for ePower etc.

BTW - Did the Bipolar cap mod work?

    Cheers,
    Theo

    Thanks all,

I did the recovery disks as directed by the software when I booted up, 2 DVD's worth.

I will look into the utilities and drivers backup next.

Oops, forgot to say it came from the factory with the XP Pro configuration.

get shot of all the acer e junk.you will use erocovery once then you will never need that again.
if you do like bits of e junk, it will be on the APPS DISK THAT YOU HAVE BURNT. And you can put it back (you would be out of your tree if you did) Junk.

    Rant over,
    Phil :D

XP was the only option as I have a client that puts software on my computer that will not run in Vista and won't for another 6-8 months.

    And I like XP too........

i haven't went out to town yet to purchase the CAPs... but i plan on that tomorrow..

unfortuantely i think running the non-polarized cap may have done additional damage...

before replacing the CAP i had a WHITE stripe going top to bottom in the center of the CRT..

after replacing the CAP w/ a non-polar,, it went back to working correctly after adjusting the POT for either Vert or Horz HOLD... then i suffered another failure... that was a few weeks ago,, so i can't be positive,, but i think it had the same symptom (white vertical stripe)...

anyway... after powering it up yesterday there seemed to be NO CRT DISPLAY... the POWER LED comes on but i'm afraid that running w/ the non polar CAP may have let voltage feed thru and damage something else??

i'll have news to report on sunday

If it came with XP, then by all means uninstall ePower and get yourself a better-programmed utility. That's what I did when I had it.
I personally recommend, RMClock, although some use Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) instead.
