Yep fresh new battery arrived , i set it in , and now takes the first charge cycle.

Its on the laptop for 5 minutes now , i had not turn-on the laptop,
and the AC adapter starts to run very hot.

The battery looks to be very cold .

Are they any special things that i need to know about the laptop batteries ?

How long it takes for one 4400mA 14.8v , to take full charge ?

I got the laptop second hand , originally was had one 2000mA in it , but was damaged from age.
So, i do not have something to compare the new one , with .

    Thanks ..

I would let it take a FULL charge, then run the laptop on the battery until it is fully DEAD, then fully recharge once more. It's just an initial training thing I do on new batteries. Then once in awhile, maybe every few months or so, let it completely drain until it is dead, and fully recharge it.
I know some people will say that on newer batteries, they do not hold a "memory". But I do this on even the newer ones to be safe. Guess we need MythBusters to look into this! :)

Remember: the first charge should not be less than 15 Hours.

    Cheers,

Since the time of my first post , i have not pull the plug yet . ;)

I am aware , that i have to let the battery to " stretch " , its individual cell to top out at the named volt value.

This process goes slowly , due the internal resistance of the cells.

Thanks for the tip , even if it came a bit delayed . :)
So far .. all good .

Let it drain completely monthly and remove it from your laptop when it's not being used. Heat isn't the best thing for a battery, I learned that the hard way with $65.

Well about the heat issue ..

The truth are , that the new power pack (Battery) does not look to get hot,
no matter what !! (Mystery or not ? )

Even the time of charging , or even at the time of be active,
for about 2H + 40Min it did not got warm .
The Acer software reported as total operating time 4:20 Min.
But i did not got that prediction .

I noticed , that the battery compartment on my laptop , are away from any other internal part that cause heat. ( I guess that this is good , and the laptop has one successful design) .

But at the end , i am still on delimma , what i should expect as on-battery time, so to understand the quality level of the new battery ? ( I need to give seller a feedback :D )

I got the Battery from EBAY , Chinese seller , with good feedback.
I demanded from him to get a fresh made battery, and the one that i got, looks to be a good one , but by getting 3Hours instead of 4Hours i have mixed fillings.

I will run another On_battery cycle today , so to see how it gets.

I bought my 2nd battery for my old Toshiba laptop from an Asian seller on eBay too. Basically I drain it monthly, take it out when not used and store at 40% charge. Don't expect more than 2-3 hours battery life unless it's extended.

Ok ... good news , the battery life starts to expand .

The second testing cycle started after another 16 Hours powered by AC .

And then run one full on-battery cycle , removed any software controls on laptop power management .

I liked to see how the hardware will react , and i am impressed !! :)

At the time that the software monitor show 0% charge , in one minute or so ,
the laptop turned off by it self ... with out any windows software command.
( Thats not a normal way to do things - ONLY for testing)

The new cycle lasted as 3H 15Min ...
laptop was on the Power mode for spreadsheet.
But and i selected , the HD on all time on, and screen always on.
    Wifi + PCMCIA off .

It feels good to know that i got a good battery , and not a potato . :D :D

CONGRATS on finding a GOOD BATTERY thru EBAY... that's like finding a needle in a haystack w/ no magnets!!!

looks like good battery times too!!

    Thats true ...

Wen I was looking on Ebay , there are so many trying to sell batteries ...
And most of them are dishonest .
Other batteries are outdated , other have less cells inside than the description.

I have on my armory , one special tool .. ;)
    Its this link . http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=&Dirn=Received+by

Add the name of any Ebay seller , and you will see in one page all the negative feedback , that he haves .

With it you can have a clear picture of whats happening with him.

From the one that i got my , i noticed that he is trying hard to build face .
    Thats motivated me, to buy.

And i did not fall out .. the battery inside haves one microchip ,
that identifies it as ACER 1000 ... ( the details makes the deference) :)

    nice little link...

and that microchip in the battery is KEY,, even with a NEW GENERIC battery people have a lot of trouble because that chip is not there.

So far i was aware that the microchip in batteries is there to assist and protect , functions as charging limiter - over charging protector - or temp sensor.

The description KEY , are new to me . :)

what i was saying is that the correct CHIP to communicate w/ the motherboard is essential (key) to the success of any AFTER-MARKET battery.

if that chip is not made for your exact model of laptop, then your computer can have problems trying to utilize the battery and control it's functioning.

Well the long story in sort , the battery died in seven months time .

I open it up ( electronics engineer ) .. found half cells dead zero volt .

I have contacted the seller , he said that he had 3 months warranty .

Right ..... i just ordered another one from another seller with 1 Year warranty.

In one year from now he will gets his feedback ... :D
    Lesson learned well .

I would also do that if they did not cost as three from eBAY ....

Does ACER offers any warranty more than a year ?

Ok just got the new one .... this identifies it self as "ACER " ( 888 8cell ) .

I am at the first charge cycle , so have nothing to say more for now.

I will just add one picture of the diagnostic software , so to see how you can check your own battery status . :)

The seller send me also a small "users manual" with handy info .
I will try to convert it, to pdf and upload it ... later on.

    ok more news ...

I did about 8 hours charging on the first run , but looks that the battery and the internal chip on the pack, stops the charging in a specific level , and stops there.
No matter how many hours the laptop will stay on power there is no further charge, for the batteries .

By having some knowledge over batteries , with those special programs ,
I manage to boost the voltage by 20mV, by letting the batteries to discharge from the 100% to 80% , and start another charging run ( Not cycle) .

As complete charging cycle , called as 100% discharge - recharge .

Now , back to my story , so i got the battery pack to the max sustainable voltage level .
    That is 16682 mV = 16,68 Volts

The battery pack of 14.8V , has internally four cells in line for 2000 Ah ,
and the 4800 Ah packs have two lines in parallel , of four cells its .
In both cases , its cell can top out at 4.2v by four times equals to 16.8v or 16800 mV .

All this details can help us, to find how fresh is the pack , because there is a rule that says , that a battery cell after one year of it production,
it will loose 20% of it power , no matter what .

Software like HWinfo32 or everest , will show one indication as "battery wear level " .
When the battery comes as new, its set to zero from the factory,
this info comes from the special circuitry on the battery.

In praxis , this "battery wear level " , it will readjust it self , at the first discharge cycle .
Proving the true condition of the cells .
This indicator never goes up , it only goes down as the condition of the cells fall too .

In my case it show an indication of 4.5% "battery wear level " .

I was hopping to be zero , thats would prove 100% fresh cells , still its a very low percentage , and the power pack can be called as 96% healthy .

Now that it has stabilize it self , it offers about 3H 40Min backup time .
And needs 4H 30Min to charge to full again .
All this on the calibration mode , that i had run it two times , by letting one day to pass , before starting the next .

On normal use , i will let in use the ACER power management software , that turns the system off , at 10% battery capacity .

That does 3H 40 Min minus 10% of this time , equals to 3H 30Min of usable time .

So far .. so good .
I will retest and the next month , so to see how it goes .
I did not have the knowledge that i have now about batteries ,
or else i would had predict my first battery pack condition sooner.

Paying and learning .. thats how it goes . :)

How you know the laptop doesn't cut off before 15 hours have passed ??

If the laptop "thinks" the battery is full after 5 hours , the charging will stop...

    FULLY DEAD ?

Does that mean putting the "critical battery level" in Power Options on 0 % ?

Can the battery not get damaged doing so ?

FULLY DEAD = 10% left in capacity !!

Thats the law for this type of batteries .

When the laptop reports Zero ... There is still 10% left in capacity , even if its not usable for the user .

If you are interested that much, about the technology behind batteries,
you need to educate your self , on specialized web sites .

About toping the battery on the first charge ,
I believe its a must do , because at the first charge batteries needs some time for toping , the charging circuitry , will stop - start - stop - start ,
until the batteries stabilize their voltage .
