Impressed with it so far. Haven't gotten to play any games, but I've loaded on HL2. Not a great way to show off the GPU maybe, I have Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed to instal too. Might get GRID.

Anyway I'm wondering if someone can help me optimise the battery life? I'm going to undervolt, is it necessary to do the temperature test? I'm mainly doing it to preserve battery.

I'm wondering if someone can help me with what services I can disabled, etc., Acer load on a lot of crap and of course Vista itself.

have you burnt the recovery dvd.s ?
do this first. you will need two dvd's one for recovery and one for the acer junk and other app's
and yes you can remove most, if not all the acer bloatware in add and remove programmes.

need you to do a review in a couple of weeks :D
    enjoy your nice new lappy

If you have got the COA sticker at the base of the notebook, U could get a disc of the same vista you have installed at the moment, and then use the serial key from the COA to do a clean reinstall....!! Try asking Acer or microsoft for a disc, they probably might charge u around $20 for shipping but the disc will be free..!! I am not sure if it will work out that way but I have read and heard of it many times.. :) but the key from the COA should definitely make your windows genuine, I have tried that myself..!!
If you are unsure, tell Acer that I wanna do a reinstall, but chances are they might say NO.. :D

Is there some kind of power scaling on the GPU? I can't figure it out.

They're okay. Assassin's Creed's the only game I've really tried it with and it isn't that well designed IMO. Half Life 2 is a bit jumpy for some reason.

I've got a Gemstone Blue myself, and so far have only run three games on it.

Audiosurf - 1366x768, high graphics, 4x AA. Smoooooth as buttah.
TF2 - 1366x768, medium/low graphics, 40s for the most part, but as the link in my sig shows, drops to 15-25 inexplicably midgame.
    Project64 (N64 emulator) - 1366x768, 4x AA, 16x AF. Good looking for the N64.

try updating drivers for video card

undervolting, with t5550, i got my max multiplier to the lowest possible voltage with no problem.

cpu temp at load remains at paltry 37 C and idle doesnt go above 19 C

So far, at the highest multiplier, without any BSODs, I got 1,0375v, on my t9300.

gekk, what is your voltage? your idle temps must mean your room is freaking cold :p

edit: saw it in the other thread, t5550, all multipliers at .9500v

I had never heard of undervolting before...how can I do this? I have a 6920G with T5550, what programs do I need and what settings should I use?

And most important - what is your BIOS version? v1.33 and 1.40 has temps-reported-incorrectly problem.

yes it is quite cold though. the laptop essentially sits below ducts where the airconditioning is.

i did another test in a more normal (not under the airduct setting with airconditioning at minimim, achieved idle tems of 26 C and max load of 40 C

v 1.07 as reported in bios

without undervolting HWmonitor says my T5550 in my 6920G to be max 30 deg C... seems too low... the other temps all seem in line though. Does anyone know what the other temps are? I just undervolted from 1.25V to 1.15V as suggested in the first step and the temps are higher than before. I ran the tests for 10+ min before undervolting and 10+ min after undervolting... max temps are now 38-44 deg C.

    TZ00 38-43 deg C
    TZVR 48-49 deg C
    TZVL 48-50 deg C
    TZ01 39-43 deg C

    core 0 11-23 deg C
    core 1 17-29 deg C

    GPU 48-52 deg C

    HDD 42-47 deg C

It's not about undervolting but I also had a problem with the temp. I have 17" Pavilion notebook (still awaiting for my new acer 8920g) and few weeks ago my geforce card melted because of overheating - funny but few weeks before that my lcd hinges melted as well :) anyway sent to HP they fix that in two days. Now I bought this little baby and my max temp on geforce is 30-40deg C (before was 70-80), cpu max 25 deg C (both cores - before was 50). Pretty good, isn't it? :)
