    Hello

Did anyone post a guide on how to upgrade an 8204 with the new merom CPU? I'm new to laptops, and don't wanna fiddle around too much on my own.
And is a merom upgrade really worth it? I'm encoding alot of dvd's, and could use all the power I can get.

    Thanks

it is not a huge preformance gain, more or less just adds 64 bits.

if it is preforming good now don't change it

if not you almost have to buy a desktop, proccesors only get so powerful in laptops

    Thanks for your replies guys

My laptop is performing quite well, but I've heard that merom perfoms up to 20% better. If the operation isn't too difficult, I think I'm gonna give it a try. But I guess I need an online tutorial of some sort to get it done correctly. I read in another post that I have to unscrew almost 50 screws or something to get the old CPU out, which seems abit alarming. Is this correct?

if you're not familiar with the internal components of a notebook, especially what should go where, I'd strongly advise against doing this yourself even with an online guide.

Just a small mistake, a loose screw or something, and it's over!

Best to buy a merom chip, and find a computer servicing shop that will do this for you. There are many such shops where I'm from (Singapore), and they would charge about $30 (not including the chip of course!)

not sure..guess you can take a walk around simlim square and see. if the shop sells it, the shop will probably have installation service too.
