I'm still on this upgrade obsession with my 4720G, but now I have gone down the track so far, it's too late to turn back. So, I have seen a guy selling HD4650 DDR2 cards on the bay. Though the HD4650 seems to get a much higher rating on Passmark's benchmark than the 9600M GT (522 vs 334), it's not clear if the benchmarked cards are DDR2, DDR3 or GDDR whatever. Anyone have any idea how these cards really compare? Am I taking this upgrade thing too far?

    Regards, Rob

I would say go for one with ddr3 ram. Also, if you go for an nvidia 9600m GT, make sure its revision C1 as they overclock better and run cooler.

A DDR3 HD4650 would beat the cr@p out of any 9600M GT. However, a DDR2 HD4650 will probably be beaten by a DDR3 9600M GT - RAM type matters that much.

Don't upgrade your current laptop as it is outdated, just get any new machine with gt 640m cheap and you will get 9800m gtx performance with dx11 as in gt 640m being that and a gt 640m takes around 20-25w..
