I'm having trouble finding a compatible HDD for my broken Aspire 5100. I wondering if anyone can tell me/recommend a compatible HDD, preferably inexpensive.

It looks like it's a SATA drive but you may check it yourself to be sure.
Other than that it's safe to buy 9,5mm high drives- another words anything up to and including 500GB should be safe. There are quite a few 640GB--> 1TB drives that would fit too but not all.

Hey Gillatorby, what is your Acer Submodel? It is a 5100 Series, but what sub model? For example, I have a Aspire 5100- 5022 that has a IDE drive. The newer ones have SATA drives and came with Vista. If you have the S/N from the Product Key sticker/paperwork on the bottom, type that in as well to help find the HDD S/N. The aspire 5100 series are different, but use the same housing/casing. The sub model determines what featurs it has. Lemmie know man.
