    HELLLPPP PLEASEE!!!!

I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago and a few days later the hard drive broke:S:S Just died!! No longer spinning!!! ACER replaced it tho! Phew!!! :D

After settling with my laptop, i tried to install games to test out the x700. Kinda hoping to get good graphic and it did give me awesome graphic but every 10/15 minutes during my game play, my computer always freezes for about 20/30seconds!!
    Here is what happen:
    1. The computer freeze (+- 10 seconds)
    2. then a the picture just dissapear
    3. my monitor becomes black (+- 10seconds)
    4. picture comes again and i can play again!!

10/15 minutes later samething happens!! hmmmm i wonder why?? i tried many drivers for the graphic card, tried the Acer's default, Omega, Ati Catalyst!! still not helping!!

but when i used the Ati Catalyst (and still using this now) if my computer happen to freeze it will pop-up error Message: VPU RECOVER!!

Well, any1 know how to solve this?? Your help will be appriciated so much thanks in adavance!!

1 more thing the fan of my laptop seems to be very loud is this because of overheating problem??? eventhough i only opened a few windows the fan always seems to be loud. I tried the Notebook Hardware control Software and it seems the processor always uses it max speed even if i set it to dynamic switching.. is this becauase AMD procesors are stil hot??

    Thanks

Sounds like your laptop is overheating. There are several factors that contribute to that.

-The GPU and the CPU are in close proximity to one another, on the left hand side of the notebook.

-The notebook is very thin at only 1" or so, and there are not a lot of places for the heat to go.

-The fan is small - diameter-wise - so it does not push out that much heat, or as much as it needs to.

In your place, about the only option I could offer you is suggesting that you purchase a cooling pad. I recommend one of the cooling pads manufacturered by Vantec - their aluminum pads are the best at conducting and whisking away heat.

In my opinion it still should not be overheating like that... No game I have tried has ever done that. I would recommend downloading the AMD Dashboard Demo from here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13349,00.html

And try running Super PI or something else that will get the temperature up, to test how warm the CPU gets first of all.
To test if your Graphics card is overheating, run 3dmark2k5 or something similar to push your card to the limit. I think CHC/NHC can display temperature from ATI cards...

I have the 5024 Aspire which I believe is exactly the same, and I have never had the problems you are describing. Make sure you don't have anything covering the vents/intakes on the computer.

If it keeps happening, I would contact Acer about it.

I have VPU off, since I have heard of instability problems from using it.
