    Hi all:

I have an Acer 5920G and I have tried to connect it via HDMI to my Philips 32PFL9632.

However, my laptop CANNOT detect my TV plugged in.

it doens't matter what settings i try, it doesn't work.

I am using a very up to date 8600M driver, 167.58.

it's not my TV for a start, my friends laptop on it works fine.

    Can any one help? thanks

    That aint very usefull lol

Ok, I got my 5920 constantly hooked up to a samsung LCD tv on resolution of 1365x768. Used different drivers and all worked well (currently on 169.09)

This might sound stupid but make sure the cable is properly inserted in both the laptop and the TV (I've had this problem once). It should go in just a far as a USB-cable (iron/gold no longer visible).

Make sure your TV is ON and on the HDMI channel. When I try to detect my TV over HDMI it also claimed there isn't any if I'm just watching some TV. It has to be on HDMI (like EXT-1). Although this might not be the case since you said ur friends laptop does work...

I recon you are using the nvidia control panel while trying to connect ur HDMI-enabled tv. Try forcing the TV.

Try closing/opening your lid while TV is in HDMI mode, it should automatically switch to the TV if you close the laptop lid.

    Good luck

    Hi, thanks for replies.

I have sent it back to Acer, and they have sent it back to me.

They reassembled all the parts to make sure all connections worked. But they say it works fine on their TV & cable. However I dont' know how they actually did it.

It still doesn't work for me.

I have tried switching HDMI ports & everything else that I've tried before.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is using a different HDMI cable, but my current cable worked fine for my friends laptop, though it was a Dell.

I had the same problem. Seems to be ok with Blu-ray movies, but with any DivX or .mkv files one has a strange "transparent line" that refreshes down the screen every couple of seconds or so. Anyone perhaps found a solution or had similar issues?

A solution to this which works for me is to press the windows key + x and then set the display to only display on the TV and not on the laptop and it stops all sorts of flicker on the TV screen and the resolution is automatically set correctly for the TV.

Hope this helps someone. I assume the flickering before was that the graphics card in the 5920G is not powerful enough to display Blu-Ray movies on both the TV and the laptop simultaneously.
