    Hi guys.

I bought a 3820TG about 2 months ago with the 6550M. Thing is everything worked perfectly out of the box then. But a week ago i decided to update the gfx drivers etc and now my gfx seems to be having some problems.

    For example :
    1. when i'm playing world of warcraft, there will be some graphic error/distortions eg. there will be thin walls where there arent supposed to be. i dont know how to explain it but its basically blocking my view when im at certain locations in world of warcraft.

    2. Some youtube videos and even videos from other sites will become distorted. Like the video will turn green/purple etc and will become impossible to view.

So yeah, has anyone experienced this? If so, please leave a comment.

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you guys soon.

    Regards,

    Justin

    Thanks for the reply Meaker.

I used the Catalyst Control Centre and managed to get this:

    Driver Packaging Version 8.741.1.6-101021a-107242C-Acer
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1038
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0001
    Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0761
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9901
    Catalyst Control Center Version 2011.0308.2325.42017

As for the old driver, i'm unsure on how to check for it.

If you upgraded it via the AMD website, it will give you problems. You need to use the drivers in the Acer page because your computer has dual graphics, and Acer has it bundled together to work as such, the AMD driver downloaded from their page is meant for the 6550 ONLY.

Uninstall any and all graphics drivers, head over to the Acer page and redownload your graphics drivers and reinstall. There is an alternative (buggy) way to update the drivers and maintain the dual GPU functionality, but it's so buggy its not even worth it in my opinion.

I ha ve a problem rather different with the same config: the driver fails ony in 2D mode, i dont know why.

I think there is a solution on NBR, but quite a 1000 posts to read is pretty hard.

I just contacted Acer to send back the computer, but it seems to be only a software problem.

I had the same problem, but with EVE online. Thought I had fixed it, by installing 3rd party hybrid drivers, but no. Didn't work.

Going to give Cerebrum's suggestion a go.

Tin2, my issues were caused by my settings in the Gaming > 3D application settings in the CCC. I changed all the non-application controlled ones to "Quality" over performance.

If that doesn't work, what you can try is to uninstall all ATI driver / programs from the menu in control panel. (also uninstall C++ 2010 redistributable if you have it). Then install hybrid drivers as per my post here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/7582757-post1022.html
