I have a 5610Z 4 weeks old and the CD/DVD drive isn't being recognized. I was able to play a DVD on it after I purchased it and also burned the backup CD's it asked me to create.
Now it won't recognize DVDs or CD's - Windows media player says no CD drive is recognized. I can't find it under the computer hardware either. What's going on? Running Vista and have not installed any programs other than Office 2003. I can put a disk in and the light flashes and I hear the laster moving or disk moving but nothing more after that. This is frustrating!

Well, not sure what happened - I restarted the computer with a disk in the drive and it's working now. However, seems to be an issue with Acer (from my internet searches) that it sometimes doesn't recognize the drive. So who knows. We'll see if this continues to happen.
