Your drive shouldn't need a driver other than the one installed with Windows. Are you having issues?

Try uninstalling the ide channel in device manager. Windows will find and reinstall it when re-booted.

You first might to use Windows Update to see if there is an updated ide driver or check Acer's website for a newer chipset driver.

That's strange... I installed XP Pro and had no problem whatsoever with the DVD drive...

Did you install the Intel chipset drivers?

i did install the intel chipsetdrvier, it shows under ide that i have intel, primary and secondary listed under device manager, but theres a yellow question mark under dvd/cd-rom drive-matshi*a dvd-ram uj-8455, and acer doesn't have this as a download option, also i dont know the name of a ide file on there website i need to download to get my drive to work

If you're seeing a question mark, something is most likely wrong with your Windows installation.

I have installed Windows XP Professional with SP2 slipstreamed, and I have always been able to use the DVD-RAM drive.

    Jason,

It's a Microsoft XP issue. I ran into it with my Acer 8204 when installed my key software into it. I'll put in the link for the fix.
