Hello everybody,
I was wondering what programs can be used to test your hardware (memory,MB...).What programs are compatible with Acer hardware for sure and what programs can be trusted?
I doubt my memory is bad because I get BSOD's from time to time,my lappy freezes often, don't want to shut down properly,my welcome screen disappeared and I can get it back,Win update can't be installed...And all this is happening after a fresh install.
So what program can tell for sure is my memory bad or not?

To be 100% sure you would need to run boot the computer from CD/USB and run dos test with no memory allocated by Windows.
Still it's easier to start with MemTest for Windows- just let it cover at least 300% or just leave it running for a few hours.

BTW- check SMART status of your HD -
Hey Downloads,
thanks for a quick answer.
I've just downloaded Memtest86+-1.7v.iso and now getting ready to make a bootable cd and do a DOS test. And came back here and see you suggested the same thing so I guess I'm on a good track I suppose
Any other program to try so I can compare the results, what do you suggest? -
Frankly never used anything but MemTest. When it discovers a problem it means either too much overclocking/too high voltage (with a few errors) or faulty memory (lots of errors).
Never seen any false positives with this tool.
My recommendation is- if the RAM is OK- check SMART status for offline uncorrectable, relocated sectors/pending sectors. -
I downloaded Memtest from here http://www.memtest86.com/,made a bootable cd and
after 10 min I had 3 errors (those red lines,I suppose they are errors)
Can I be 100% sure it is a RAM failure,is this version of Memtest compatible with Acer hardware??
I ask this because last year I had similar situation (memtest was showing errors, notebook still under warranty) and after I sent it to Acer service they
said that Memtest is not compatible with Acer hardware, that they just flashed BIOS and lappy was working OK until this month
Can somebody test their notebook with this same version of Memtest and tell me if Memtest is reporting errors although the notebook is working OK.
I would be grateful...
And history repeating again,my warranty has ended on 27.07.2007
I read so many stories about this happening (notebook going bad a month after warranty is over) and now it is happening to me

Install SpeedFan, go to the SMART tab, use submit button and look at the SMART analysis that shows in your browser. Read the comments below the table if there are any.
As for the memtest I use windows version- still I think ACER's trying to make fool of you. Incompatible with what? My notebook or yours? What ACER hardware- my ATI chipset, AMD CPU or Kingston memory? Do they claim that my memory module on a notebook other than ACER wouldn't show any errors?
If that's the case the mobo/bios is faulty.
I'm running memtest for windows on my Aspire 5024 at the moment.
Please use this test as I cannot reboot and need the computer running.

Let it run until 300% at least.
EDIT: Done 400% with memtest for windows with no errors.
