I have the Acer Aspire 5672 with ati x1600.
Has anyone upgraded there drivers from stock Acers.
Trying to get better performance for Games (newest being Company of Heroes).
Has anyone had any luck with these new OMEGA 6.9s.

I tryed to install the factory ATI 6.9s. I had bad luck becuase the laptop took about 4 times longer to boot up. Then after boot the computer seemed to load stuff longer then usual.

I am currently back to the Acer fac ATI drivers.

    Thanks and Good luck.

I'm on Omega 6.8 right now (since 6.9 wasn't out last time I upgraded my drivers, and given that the current single game I'm playing is about 4 years old I don't think the latest drivers will matter much).

I've just changed from CCC 6.9 to the 6.9 Omega's on my 5672, I'm quite happy with CCC 6.9 but I thought I'd give the Omega drivers a try. Early days yet but I was getting similar results using 3DMark05.
That was until I discovered that I can now overclock my X1600 using the overclocking facility found in tray tools. I'm new to overclocking but so far about a 10% OC has raised my 3DMark05 number from the 2917 up to 3260.

I'm glad to hear that the Omega 6.9 have worked out for you. Have you (Kitch) played any game using the new drivers. I'm trying to get better performance (mostly smoothness not just framerates) on some newer games. The one most important is Company of Heroes.
Thanks for the info peeps. :)
I may try to upgrade this weekend and I will post my reaction then. I just hope I dont get any blue screens :).

Benchmark scores for my Acer 5672 with ATI x1600 (128mb/512 hypermem)

    Standard Acer Ati drivers (8.241)
    3D MARK05 2845
    3D MARK03 4839
    Company of Heroes (automatic settings)
    avg 8.9
    max 46.0
    min 3.0
*obviously these auto setting are for a desktop version of the x1600 (with high ram frequency and 128-bit memory bus). After setting some stuff to med and high (shadows and reflection on low), and no AF and AA. I get playable framrates.

Standard ATi Mobility 6.9 drivers (not OMEGA)
    3D MARK05 2852
    3D MARK03 4826
    Company of heroes (same settings)
Blank screen or BSOD, then reset. Bummer, I was hoping for a better experience with this game, but apparently Ati and Acer blows. Back to the Standard Acer drivers. I hope other have a better experience with there driver upgrade. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Since OMEGA's are based on ATI 6.9 , I will not be trying these. Good luck to others who try. :)

Disclaimer: I am not the most technical person out there
    Acer Aspire 5672

When I tried 3.8291, (6.9) it ran and installed fine but whenever I try to run oblivion, (patched with all the newest goods) it gets all wonky and the game is closed after about three minutes into game play. The resulting screen is usually one of a lower resolution and distorted, (after I am kicked out of the game).

So needless to say I went back to 3.8273, (6.7 I believe)...

I'm having the same problem with Oblivion. You say that it fixed the problem when you reverted back to 6.7?

And are you talking Catalyst or Omega drivers?

Hey Allenxt do you play any other games. How do those omegas stack up to those games (BSOD or bad textures, etc.). I may be interested in trying the Omega 6.7's if they seem good. The 6.9's have given me greaf so far. Maybe we will get lucky with the 6.10 release. :)

Oblivion and B&W2 are the only two games I play that tax the laptop... For neither game do I experience any kind of problems with the Omega 6.7's.. B&W ran fine under 6.9, but because Oblivion died off I went back to 6.7 We can only hope that someone will notice oblivion craps out on the 6.9 and fix it

    Cheers

Thanks for the responce Allenxt. The 6.7 sound good. I have a feeling that the 6.9 work well with oblivion, just not for us Hypermemory mobile x1600. Ati probably doesn't pay too much attention for the lower end of the totem pole.
