I am using 2012 since last august. Overall it was an awesome experience. Recently I've started to use my headphones quite often. I have regular sony earbuds. The problem is that it almost impossible to listen to music and movies at the normal volume levels due to very loud and ear pressing noise comming out of the headphones. But the noise goes away when I turn off the backlight (Fn+F6). The problem remains with other consumer headphones. I have not tries and 32 or 48 impeadance headphones.
Any ideas? Is that a problem or a feature?![]()
I don't rememmber noticing this noise before. I will hate it if I have to replace the bulbs of inverter after my warranty period.
And certainly use of headphones is absolutely impossible.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Just a wild guess . Is the microphone on muted state . Just take volume tab the add if microphone tab is not available . Click -options - properties and select microphone , See if the mute is ticked if not select it . -
Thanks for the reply.
The noise stays even if I mute everything and turn the master volume down. But once I turn off the backlight the noise is gone completely.
I am very frustrated because I cannot use my headphones in the office. I am even ready to send the notebook to Acer for service.
Any other ideas for self-fixing the problem?
Thanks! -
I understand that this is not a hi-end audio output. But I do not want to accept the fact that I cannot use headphones with this notebook
There are high quality USB sound cards-sticks, but this involves spending significant amount of money
Do you have the same problem? Somebody, try using your heaphones with backlight on and off. Do you have significant difference in the noised levels?

I don't really have a solution, but the low buzzing noise is common on devices like computers where there is a lot of interference running around.
If you really want, there are pcmcia sound cards out there. They don't come cheap if you want the good ones.
I've heard of firewire sound cards but I've never seen one.

I have a low buzzing sound, but the backlight doesn't affect it.

Thanks for your time.
I've jut ordered Turtle Beach USB audio card for $24, which has analog and digital outputs. This will solve the problem. It unfortunate that I have to spend money and carry this usb stick around

I know this might be a bit late, but have you tried getting a PCMCIA sound card? This will eliminate having to carry an external USB device. It'll stay in your PCMCIA slot, and it's doubtful that anyone really uses the PCMCIA anymore. Especially with WiFi, LAN & modem built onboard.
I don't know how good it is vs the Turtle Beach sound card, but I know Creative has the Audigy 2 ZS card that fits into the PCMCIA slot.

Thanks for the advice!
This is a great device, but too expensive for my needs. I am not ready to pay over 100 bucks to be able to use my headphones. Turtle beach offers quality analog output and optional optical link if needed.
The other problem with Creative's card is that it sticks out of slot too much. I would feel uncomfortable leaving it inside the notebook while carrying it in the bag.
I will post my thoughts on this usb thumb sound card here once I get it.
Best
