My Travelmate 5720 laptop will not boot. When I hit the power button I can see the power LED, hard drive LED and DVD rom drive light come on in sequence but nothing appears on the screen and nothing beeps. After about 15 seconds the laptop powers itself off.
I have removed the battery and re-seated the RAM, can you suggest anything else to try.
PS: I have seem various users talking about creating a BIOS recovery CD and then powering on the machine with the FN+ESC key pressed, unfortunately I can't find the bios files I need for my machine in the format required to allow me to perform this process.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you bought it in a european union country ask them why they dont give a 2year guarantee as the laws say and say that you will take legal actions against them...that worked for me so demand your rights as a costumer now

Try one external monitor , before you do anything further .
Read the manual how to activate the external screen on boot .
Contact ACER by email , ask their opinion and instructions . -
Hi Guys,
I purchased the laptop in the UK, I've contacted Acer and they don't really want to know since it is outside the 12month warranty period.
I have tried to hook up an external monitor but no output found.
I have tried to contact the retailer who are looking into the issue, apparently according to UK sales laws a product should last a 'reasonable' period of time, I would exprect a laptop to last more than 14 months.
Apparently the EU 2 year warranty is only a directive so may not be applicable here in the UK but I stand to be corrected on this point as I am no lawyer.
This is my first Acer laptop and it is disappointing to have these problems particulary since I thought the Travelmate range was meant to be more of a premium Acer product.
Appreciate your help.

Dear friend ... I will be brief .
1) Contact ACER, for out of warranty repair .
2) At list send it in, and ask for a cost estimation .
3) The Retailer is not able to help .
4) Remove and backup the HDD if you have important files ,
ACER will wipe it clean , at the service .
5) If you get asked in the future to join EU , say Yes !! -
Dear All,
Thanks for all your help, the problem in the end turned out to be a faulty RAM module, it was strange as I would at least expect to see a boot up screen or a BIOS error beep.
