I have a Acer Aspire 4530 with Windows Vista, and I created the 3 Factory Restore disks. Now, if I format the harddrive completely, and put Windows XP on it. . . Will those disks still be able to completely revert the computer, and actually put it back at the factory status if I F this up? Thanks in advance.

PS: I have a 9100M, 2.0 AMD x2 64, and 3GBs. I'm looking for a little more performance out of XP. I was thinking of just putting in Home.

If you selected The Factory Default backup, it will restore the computer to the way it was when you first got it, and not after the fresh format and reinstall.

    Also an Aspire 4530 user.
    I don't not recommend downgrade.
AHCI is problematic on Xp you have to do F6 install AHCI driver to get it.
I suggest you to do a clean install and undervolt the processor Vista run great on this machine.

I am NOT the model of AS 4530.
But I would suggest you NOT to downgrade your current OS to XP.
You would find yourself digging important drivers and software around and lastly you can't find the software/drivers and some of the drivers/software downloaded can't even work properly in XP.
I think you should do a UPGRADE more than a DOWNGRADE. Windows 7 RC is available now for free. Grab it.
I suppose Windows 7 > XP and Vista.

I prefer XP, but I would also recommend to wait untill Windows 7 is released and 100% functional and ready to be used! :)
The current free edition of Windows 7 is a beta. That means there are many bugs.

Conclusion: Stick to Vista, and buy Windows 7 when it is released.

    Welcome to the forums!

I'll tell you right now that Acer suck. And when the factory install breaks your computer and renders it unusable, they'll charge you a ridiculous amount of money regardless if you're under warranty or if you bought it last week.

It seems that you have pure anger towards Acer.
When you send your laptop to the Acer Repair Centre you should tell them properly. So, they won't spoil your laptop. Those technicians are =.= they are like don't know what the problems and simple do some changes.
You should go for Acer and have them repair for you again(you must scold them perhaps).
OR you can go to some non-branded computer repair center and repair your laptop.

Ha. I'm just annoyed by the whole situation. Its almost a month now that I've gone without my laptop, and its beyond a joke. And I only had it a month prior to that. What I thought would be a simple, harmless task has turned out not to be the case. And Acer is at the heart of it all, so therefore they should be hated upon.

They should, but that's no reason to spam other people's threads. You have your own thread, and is people want to, they will read it. This guy already has an Acer laptop, so telling him Acer sucks isn't gonna do anything.

To the OP, I'd recommend staying with Vista as well. The horror stories you hear are purely people just following the 'in thing' which is Vista bashing. Install SP1 and SP2 on it and its a GREAT OS.
